Hey y’all!

So I’m going on a cruise this Sunday for 6 days and I won’t have WiFi/service to track on MFP.

I plan on working out 5 days a week like I do now but Of course I want to enjoy myself and my vacation & have the occasional treat/drink! Does anyone have strategies/tips to not feel restricted on vacation but not fly off the rails?!

Thanks!:)

    Ahoy! fellow cruiser here

I still try and not go overboard (pardon the pun  ) with my eating despite all the fantastic available food. I mostly aim to make good food choices, say no to the bread rolls at dinner for one thing and have one dessert a day. I generally don't do buffet food so when that's all that's available I am careful with my choices and portion size.

On our first cruise after my weight loss goal was reached in 2013 I threw caution to the wind, ate what I wanted and gained 6lbs on a two week cruise. It took me two months to get back to goal so I said to myself, never again! Hence my more strategic plan to not eat all the food lol. (I am a painfully slow loser)

Plus we are inclined to walk alot so that helps.
I usually gain 2 to 3lbs on each cruise but as soon as we return I'm back in routine and it disappears within a few weeks.

    Enjoy

I have never been on a cruise but someday I would love to.

    I have some suggestions though.

    1. Look for the excercise areas on your boat that has things like cardio equipment. Who knows, maybe they have classes.
    2. Find a pool on the boat that is big enough for water excercise or swimming.
    3. . Walk a bunch on the boat and on shore. excursions.
    4. Find a way to log what you eat. Some folks take pictures of the food on their plates. Some folks take a small tablet of paper to write down food intake.
    5. The hardest thing to do is to make good food choices on a boat loaded full of amazing foods. I do not envy you.
If you can that is great. Fill up on lower calorie nutritious foods and do small portions of the tempting "calorie bombs". If you can. Your plan of one dessert a day is a good one. Same goes with limiting buffet meals.

Bon voyage. Don't beat yourself up if you get home weighing more. Just get back on MFP and follow your plan if you do go overboard with your food intake.

I lost on my cruise! Made rules for myself.
Stairs only. Early morning walks around promenade deck (after my room service coffee :D ).
No unconscious eating.Walk the buffet and study what I REALLY want. If I must try just a spoonful.
Water with lots of lemon or iced tea.
No alcohol in daylight hours (it's more fun to watch the foolish drunks by the pool)
Just one at happy hour (gin and tonic) and 1 red wine at dinner.
My husband and I will share a dessert.
Cruise food is mediocre so no need to eat like a refuge...you can eat tomorrow!
When it comes to cruise food...people mix up quality with quantity and believe me it is more quantity.
Decide in your own mind if you wish to be in control or just throw caution to the wind and let the chips fall where they may! Its your choice!

I'm going to the cruise and I won't be tracking anything. 1 week won't do too much damage. I won't come back from my trip. It takes many and months and years to be fat not one week. If I do come back 10-15lbs heavier, maybe I'll do a mini cut, the weight should drop quickly since it will be mainly all the water weight and sodium in my system. Just enjoy your trip, it's not like you go on vacation on a regular basis.

As someone mentioned, use the stairs. No elevator.
Try to have water at meals. They usually serve free ice tea.
Decide what time you want to eat your carbs - breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack or have small carb at each meal. And this is some additional tips - the day before you are to leave the cruise - if you are not really early people or are still packing, you may want to order room service the night before. Very hectic at the buffet that day. Have tons of fun!

I went on a cruise last month. I ate and drank all the things. I gained two pounds. I regret nothing!

Stay active/use the stairs/workout. If it's good eat it all, if it's bad don't finish it, if it's amazing have seconds. A couple glasses of wine or whatever per night. Dance. you'll be good. I went on a cruise and didn't gain an ounce.

Portion control is your friend. Take half the quantity you initially "think" you want. You'll usually find yourself more than satisfied. A little bit if self-restriction/Control isn't a bad thing, even on vacation. This isn't a short term project. We need to learn to manage our weight for life.

Good you're going to exercise some.

Advice, eat like you've seen food before the cruise and will see it again after the cruise.

    Have fun.

My advice for not going off the rails would be to listen to your fullness cues. I say that hesitantly though bc I know some people don't have reliable cues there.

I went on vacation last fall and my plans were largely centered around foods I wanted to try in that city. :) I indulged freely but, except for one meal, avoided eating to the point of feeling painfully stuffed. (I hate that feeling.) So even though I ate and drank as much as I wanted with no attention to calories, by the end of the trip I'd only gained 2 pounds and they fell off within a week or so.

Savor what's delicious, don't overdo the mediocre, stop when you're full, and have fun!

I always say the same thing to people who worry about the food on offer during All Inclusive holidays.

Think about the food that you might have available and think about the cost to the company. They will have amazing fresh salad, fruits, veg, fish and meat. They will probably also have pizza, burgers, French fries, pasta. Now think about when you go to the supermarket.....which of the above is cheap? You have probably paid out a hefty sum of money for this holiday and you might feel that in order to ‘get your money’s worth’ you should go for the stodgy stuff. But think about it, you have the opportunity to eat some amazing healthy bountiful foods and not have to pay out for it.

I say if you think you might go nuts, then do it on the stuff that costs the cruise ship more money haha
