Question about working out

Hello. I am only just starting a workout routine. I have had a weird occurrence, and wondering what I need to do to alleviate it from happening. The other day when I was working on the weight machines, I noticed that for the first 4 or 5 reps, that I got "tunnel vision." My eyes didn't really want to focus, and I was slightly dizzy from the vision irregularity. I am wondering if I have a medical reason that this is happening, or if I just need to work on my breathing while doing the reps. It did resolve after I got further into the weight lifting regimen. But it has happened twice now (both times working out on the weight machines). I have experienced it a couple of times while also walking the treadmill.

Has anyone else ever had this happen? I really am not looking for an excuse to stop the workouts - I want to keep at it. Thanks!

I’ve had a similar experience and I was definitely dehydrated. I knew it too so I stopped, had some water and was fine. You may not have the same issue though...

That is very possible. I don't keep a water bottle with me in the gym, because I am usually there for about 45 mins or so. But I can try hydrating about an hour before I go in, and see if that helps. Thanks!

How was your heart rate and breathing at the time? Is it possible you were unconsciously holding your breath while exerting yourself?

What are you doing breathing wise...a lot of people unconsciously hold their breath.

If you haven't eaten and try to train fasted, it can be a little rough too. Holding your breath can do that too, but that's actually done frequently and coached (valsalva maneuver, which is used to help tighten your core when lifting heavy).

I would bet on either being dehydrated and/or not having enough to eat in the recent time before using weights.

I've had my vision go a bit "funny" and/or got dizzy on some days where I either didn't eat enough or was having particularly low blood pressure

Glad to hear I am not the only one!
