What are some stretches that I should be doing before working out on the weight machines? Is there a web link that you would recommend to assist with this?

Actually, you should not stretch before working out with weights.
Just warm up with some calisthenics, cardio, or by doing one or two lights sets of the exercise itself.

Thank you! I am a little sore after my first workout on Monday, so was wondering the best way to alleviate any problems.0

i do the total opposite. Before i start working out i do some gentle stretching, muscle activating and warming up with a resistance band and the TRX, just to get some blood to my muscles, and my joints moving around . I sometimes do one or two minutes of a cardio machine to get warm, but its by no means in the cardio range.
And i always start my lifting with the empty bar and build up to my working weight.
i dont stretch at all after i work out. If i did a high intensity workout, i'd walk around a bit to cool off. But for weight lifting, i just drop the weights and go home.trishaglockel wrote: »Thank you! stretching isn't gonna alleviate soreness, you just gotta ease into working out slowly and you will have some soreness until your body adjusts after a week or two.0 -

Dynamic stretching prior to workout, static after (if at all).0 -

stretching isn't going to do anything for DOMs...DOMs goes away when you continue to workout and your body adjusts to working. Ease in and build up.0 -

Stretch afterwards, and make sure you're getting adequate protein0 -

No need to stetch or do warmups outside of the lift you plan on doing unless your body or gym is uncomfortably cold. It's literally a waste of time and energy assuming you don't start on a high intensity sets.
The most efficient warm up will be doing lighter versions of what lift you start with.
There is zero data showing preworkout stretching prevents injury, and in some cases it makes your muscles respond to stimulas in a less efficient manner.0
