It's as healthy or unhealthy as you make it. You can be very healthy or very unhealthy on keto. Keep in mind it does require more attention to nutrition than a balanced diet, especially if you go for the stricter kind, and you would need to keep an eye on your electrolytes. Other than that, it's not too worse off than any other diet if you know what you're doing and it's not compromising your mental and social health.8

Any Way Of Eating can be unhealthy and different people need different WOE's. Getting off of processed foods in 2014 and eating more keto and Low Carb High Fat way has been a positive game changer for this old man now 67.
Try it for 90 days but I learned in my case I could not do keto until I gave up a carb addiction that I did not even know that I had until I got serious about KETO.
Best of success in finding the WOE(s) that works best for your life.12 -
Probably not, many have done it and are fine, the Eskimos have done it for thousands of years, the real question is, if your body is adapted to eat carbs too, why deny yourself that? I thought of doing keto but it makes no sense to restrict myself from pizza, pie or an occasional cookie. One life.4

Not usually.
A diet of fat bombs, bullet proof coffee, and nests fried in trans fats might be. A diet based upon meats, veggies, eggs, dairy and seafood is not. In fact it can improve cholesterol and lower CVD risk in most people.
As mentioned, electrolytes is one area to watch. If you don't replace your sodium once in a low carb diet, your electrolytes can fall to unhealthy levels.10 -
I don’t think it’s unhealthy necessarily, but I do think it’s not maintainable in the long run.2

I think the jury is still out.4

Funny you should mention that. This is stolen brazenly from Aadam Ali's Physiqonomics page this morning.
Being a very low-carb diet means that carb intake is restricted to 30-50g per day, eliminating pretty much every source of carbohydrate–yes, even fruit–besides vegetables. This super restrictive nature is where the argument begins: “The diet is too restrictive,” “Nobody can stick to a ketogenic diet for the long-term.”
Uh, yeah, about that...
Luis Villasenor of the popular Ketogains community has been in ketosis for over 14 years. And there are hundreds, if not thousands, of people in the KetoGains community (and all over the web, like the subreddit /r/keto/) who are not only sticking to the diet but are perfectly happy and getting great results using it. I was in ketosis for over a year and used the diet with great success back in 2015.
I wasn't able to maintain it long term, but that doesn't mean other people can't.4 -

I agree with this, and would say like most diets.
I think the jury is still out on sat fat, and prefer to limit it myself, but you don't need to consume tons of sat fat on keto. I also think vegetables are very important, but you can eat a good many vegetables on keto.
Ultimately one of the big issues for health is being able to maintain a healthy body weight and feeling good enough to exercise. If keto helps you do that, it's healthy, and if it's not something sustainable for you (which it isn't for lots of people), then it might not be.
I also think that you don't need to lose weight and maintain doing the same thing (not exactly the same, I'm not promoting a fad diet or super low cal approach), and some find it easier to keep a deficit with very low carbs and then to include more when in maintenance.1
