Help recovering from a binge

I am looking for help and advice for how to recover from a binge. Every few weeks I give in to temptation. It usually starts with one cookie, and then 2000 calories later I realize I have eaten cookies and crackers and candy until I literally feel sick. This of course ruins my progress as I don’t feel like working out. I’m wondering what I can do to avoid these situations in the future and how to recover from abusing my body like this. Thank you!

I don't know if this will work for you but it has for me, the past three days, I shifted from eating three times per day on a 1500 calorie deficit to once per day.

I went from being ravenously hungry all day and feeling the need to binge to going without food for twenty four hours and not feeling hungry at all, I actually just went twenty six hours without a meal and forced myself to eat despite not feeling hungry. I'm not sedentary either, I lifted, walked 10k steps and generally moved about.

You can try that, see if it helps, the only downside is feeling overstuffed from trying to eat all your calories in one hour.

No, you're not going to do anything to "recover". Your body handles eating like it's designed to to it (it actually is). But you should look into what you can do to avoid feeling out of control around food. Have you been undereating, or otherwise depriving yourself, demonizing foods, food groups or nutrients. denying yourself pleasure from food, eating strange food, or not allowing yourself to eat socially?

Log it, move on, and determine what is making you want to binge (stress? overrestriction of certain foods/calories?)

I don't know if this is the right answer, but when I'm in the mood for homemade cookies or snacks (and lots of them!) I work it into my calories for that day. I'll eat a small lunch and a light dinner and then eat the cookies/snacks until I feel content. Even if it accounts for half of my daily calories, I still satisfied my cravings and didn't go crazy on my calories. Sometimes I still want more, but have to remind myself that I had my fair share and it's not worth ruining my progress. Good luck~

I like the ideas to work treats into my daily calories. I think one of my major issues is that I am on a low FODMAP diet for a liver and intestine condition, so I haven’t been able to eat my favorite foods. I’ve also been depressed because of this health condition. Yesterday I just got really sad because I didn’t feel well enough to work out, and I opened up all the food I wasn’t supposed to have and ate an entire box of crackers and 3of those huge Lenny and Larry’s cookies. Of course I felt trrrible because not only did I binge, but I binged on foods I’m supposed to restrict.

I think I need to find ways of coping with depression that aren’t food, and also try to accept my diet limitations and find recipes for low fodmap treats. My diet has been basically egg whites and green beans and rice cakes and peanut butter since thanksgiving.

As you say .... Find more fodmap treats (and every day food too). I have had to be on Fodmap before....to be fair, there are lot of things you can eat.....So maybe it's Time to get creative and knowledgeable about what you CAN do! (Rather than spend too much time thinking about what you can't... )

    Good luck
