So I do jui jitsu classes and am always getting bruised up to where it looks like I’ve got a police report filed.

What gives? It looks awful and Someone suggested a lack of vitamin k might be the reason.

Anyone heard of such reason and/or other reason and fix? I did start taking a multi vitamin now but too soon to tell. Also, I do a lot of protein shakes so I could be lacking some nutrients I suppose.

Most likely reason is insufficient iron or vit C...vit C you can supplement safely, you will simply shed anything you can't immediately absorb, but iron should not be supplemented without confirming its low, so you need a test for that...you could always give blood, they will perform an iron test as part of the screening process...or, you could try eating iron rich foods and see if it helps.

If you suspect something serious I'd check with a doctor, but lack of iron is always my first suspect. I also heard that taking fish oil can increase bruising.

I heard rutin is a good supplement for helping not only with bruising but other benefits. Anyone heard of it?

Some of us just bruise easily, too. I'm all good blood chem wise, but have bruised easily since childhood (so did my mother, BTW).

How long have you been doing the JJ? When I was doing kung fu back a ways, if I didn't do impact drills regularly, I'd bruise really badly on resuming, but it would be less of a problem for some reason over time as long as I kept up a routine.

If you have a doctor visit, be prepared for them to ask you gently if you're being abused. (They should ask.) Some of my coworkers believed my late husband - a MA teacher - was a major brute based on my appearance at times. Not so - gentlest guy ever, like many MA folks IME. You may be able to moderate this misimpression by casually making it socially known that you're a JJ practitioner.

Lol yes I have since I’ve been asked. I’ve been doing for a couple months so I assumed I would adapt. Maybe still need time and I’ll try the rutin and multi vitamin

For a while I was taking baby aspirin and fish oil. Both are blood thinners and I was bruising very easily. I've since backed off, taking only the aspirin.

In any case, it's normal to bruise when you get whacked, and if you have fair skin, it's very easy to see. Could all be normal.
