MFP is recommending that I eat 1200 calories a day. I wrote down that I am sedentary during the day, but I'm not sure if that's accurate. I'm 5'6", 38 years old, 160 lbs, and want to lose 30 lbs. I try to exercise 6 times a week for 30 minutes each, Nordic walking fast or a HIIT/strength workout. Should I be adding on the calories burned to the 1200 per day? I think I have a fast metabolism, because yesterday I ate a pretty normal amount for me, and it came out to be about 4000 calories! I also pruned apple trees for 2.5 hours vigorously (I was breathing hard most of the time, and today I'm pretty sore.) I do not have a fitness tracker.

Yes, you log your exercise and eat those calories back.

4000 calories per day would make most people with your stats gain weight. Keep tracking for a week or so and see what your average daily calorie intake is.

1200 is pretty low. Change your weight loss goal from 2 lbs to 1 lb per week. Two pounds per week is for people with a lot of weight to lose, like 100 pounds.
