It is basically a periodic high carb day.
  • And what is it useful for?
How many grams are considered a refeed?

Being in a caloric deficit slows your metabolism to a degree. The amount varies depending on the individual, leanness, caloric deficit, length of being in a deficit etc. If someone is lean, it is a tool, in some situations, to use to try to mitigate the slow down. It is also good for gym performance and sanity as you are a bit more flexible in your food choices. If really is not beneficial from a metabolic perspective, if you are not lean, not in a decent sized deficit or if you are someone who just does not respond well to them.

The second question is completely context dependent but normally you would take your calories (via carbs) up somewhere around maintenance.

To further what Sara said, if you are already on VERY low cals and maintaining BW at that level it is likely t;hat you already have metabolic adaptations so it's sort of too late to do anything about it. Reverse dieting is what you are after mate.

And what on earth is a reverse diet? Does this involve donuts?

    Can do

A reverse diet is where you get back up to maintenance by upping your calories in increments.

The speed you do it depends on how long you have been at a deficit and how much you have been losing.

If you are maintaining on that, then as Chris says, you are not looking at a refeed but a slow reverse.
