I'm traveling this weekend to visit my dad and step-mom. I brought my TRX setup to do strength training today. I also packed my sneakers and workout gear so I can go for a short run. I'll be going for at least a few long walks too.
Visits home are always full of amazing meals and homemade bread. I decided that instead of worrying about keeping myself at a deficit, to shoot for maintenance calories (about 1800 daily). I'll log my food, do my workouts, and enjoy my visit with my parents. In the grand scheme of things two days at maintenance won't be a huge deal.
That said, I know going to struggle though with seeing my end of day calories being over goal, since in the past such breaks have often been a tipping point for sliding back on progress.
My folks typically eat pretty healthy (lots of veggies, good protein, very little sugar) but my visits are special occasions, so there tends to be a bit more wine and cheese.
Aside from trying to eat at maintenance, log meals, and find ways to exercise, what strategies have folks used to prevent total derailment while traveling to spend time with family?

During my weight loss journey, I have also chosen to aim for maintenance, at certain times. But I didn't like to see my daily journal go into the red. Only psychological because I was still on track for my new maintenance target. The one thing that helped me was to change my settings, by altering my daily calorie target, from weight loss to maintenance. Then while tracking and logging as accurately as possible, it felt much better not going into red. Only using for the 2 or 3 days as planned, then I immediately changed my food journal back to my weight loss target. This helped signal my return to my normal routine.
I realise it was all in my mind, but it helped keep me focused, seeing I was still on target, and return to lower goal immediately rather than slide.2 -
Focus on protein as a priority for your meals. Get some sort of activity. Enjoy your vacation without stress.1
