Breakfast Buffet - wwyd?

I'm staying at a hotel that has a breakfast buffet - not the greatest but it has the typical fruits, cereal, breads, juice, plus asian fried stuff, dumplings, pancakes and of course eggs to order etc.
I went for steamed fish in teriyaki sauce (tried to get bits with minimal sauce rather that being bathed in it), fruit and lots of coffee (reduced the milk I have and no sugar).
Anyone else had to deal with this (not that it is a huge issue!) - we are away too long to just let loose so I'm trying to carefully plan what I get and still enjoy it!

I usually don't have breakfast - but if I was at a hotel it probably means I am on vacation or driving somewhere and might not get an oppertunity to eat for awhile so I might check out the spread.
I would probably have eggs. Either scrambled on toast or maybe an omelette depending on what the add ins looked like. If they had honeydew melon or cantaloupe I would probably have some of that too. Or if they had some more portable food I might grab a few items to eat later rather than sitting down to eat (hard boiled egg, apple, granola bar).1 -
I would get eggs to order and ask for mostly whites, in an omelette with vegies1

I just got back from a week at an all inclusive resort in Mexico - buffet for breakfast, casual lunches and nice dinners; drinks by the pool and wine at dinner.
For breakfast I usually had an omelet with ham, spinach and zucchini; some breakfast potatoes, a couple of the yummy pastries, coffee and a couple mimosas.
Came back and weighed in right in the middle of my maintenance range so if I gained anything beyond water weight, it was maybe a pound. If anything I think I should have eaten/drank more!
Don’t sweat it OP. Enjoy your time, stay active, and keep perspective.10 -
id eat everything. Im not good at buffet style anything. I mirror the omlettes if trying to keep it healthy/clean/lower calorie but id just enjoy and deal later. I am a buffet dummy though1

I usually have fruit and eggs with coffee. Of course if I am on vacay, I may eat heavier since we typically wouldn't eat till later in the afternoon.0

Oatmeal! Most hotel buffets offer it and it’s usually just oats and water. I’m vegan and travel every week with work, so I spend a lot of time asking what I can eat on the breakfast buffet. Oatmeal is a great low calorie, healthy and filling choice. Add a banana if you like sweet, pineapple is a great option too.1

Fruit and coffee. Maybe a bagel or pastry.0

I'd run before breakfast then eat what ever I liked.3

I generally have a smaller breakfast. I'd probably choose scrambled eggs, fruit, toast or cereal. I don't love breakfast foods so might just skip and have a slightly bigger lunch.0

I usually go for a boiled egg & oatmeal or yogurt and take a piece of fruit that travels well for later.
Random: Last time I went to a hotel breakfast buffet while traveling, I was wearing this t-shirt and carrying a banana out of the dining room so people laughed as I walked past...

What does the shirt say? I even took out my contacts and can't tell.1 -

It's just a really common band tee for The Velvet Underground and Nico (70s).
It was the banana on shirt, banana in hand, that they noticed1 -
All the fruit, all the coffee. Enough of whatever protein I want to keep me full til the next time I will eat.0

These days I prefer to have hotels without breakfast but at times I get one with (when I forgot tot tell our travel agent) I find it hard if it is buffet as there is so much that I like, but I also find that after 2 days I revert back to my usual breakfast routine.
If all else fails I skip a meal and go into a 2 meals a day strategy But I admit it is hardly ever more than 3 or 4 nights for me0 -
Full English breakfast and Champagne.2

If I'm at a hotel it means I'm on vacation so I'm going to let loose and try stuff but I also usually make sure to have the regular eggs and sausage. Damn now i'm craving sausage gravy over biscuits.1
-
Just went on a mini overnight vacation and had biscuits and gravy, sausage links, bacon, scrambled eggs, and a bowl of cereal for breakfast. I maybe should have went for the fruit basket but damn was it good.1

Same as a few others - scrambled eggs and fruit, especially melon if that's available. I like scrambled eggs and fruit; I would probably pick that even if I were a couple of pounds below where I want to be.1

At least you get options. Most of the places I've stayed at only have one kind of egg (not always the low calorie stuff, it's usually prepackaged), lots of pastries and bread, cardboard oatmeal etc... I'm super hungry in the morning so I always end up eating too much (yogurt and fruit just don't cut it for me).
Now I gag at the idea of eggs unless they're fried, so I'm just glad I probably won't have to stay at an hotel for a while.0 -

Stay in hotels where breakfast isn’t included and you’ll have more options. Doesn’t have to be a four star hotel but most Courtyards and Doubletrees have breakfast that you order off a menu and they will cook your meal to order. Or just go out for breakfast at a local diner or cafe - instead of limiting yourself to whatever the hotel has to offer.0 -
Bacon & Eggs & Coffee, b/c fat, protein and coffee are life.3

Eggs with some kind of meat, coffee (lots) and maybe some cereal. I love breakfast buffets!0
-
I'd go with the protein they're offering that I like best, the fresh produce that looks best, and if they have excellent baked goods I'd split one with my companion most days.1

If there were interesting specialty foods like steamed fish and dumplings, I’d probably have some of those. For the average chain hotel breakfast, I usually choose yogurt and fruit. I’ll put milk in my coffeee rather than half and half. Occasionally I’ll have scrambled eggs and sausage. I love oatmeal, but by the time I dress it up to my liking with brown sugar, walnuts and dried cranberries, it’s 600 calories that will only keep me full for a few hours.0

Generally when I'm at a hotel (and I actually feel like eating breakfast) I eat enough that I will skip lunch, or have a late lunch/early dinner so either way I cut it down to two meals for the day. My go-to is one pancake/waffle topped with fruit and whip cream with two hard boiled eggs. If they don't have pancakes/waffles I would do an English muffin with two eggs (fried, unless they have good vegetables to scramble in) and some fruit.1
-
At a hotel I usually get eggs (with vegetables in an omelet if possible) with some cottage cheese on the side and probably some fruit.
When I was eating plant based I'd get oats with fruit and whatever vegetables were available (usually some raw veg are IMO).0 -
I travel often. I opt for eggs, fresh fruit if it's an option, and an english muffin or slice of wheat toast with peanut butter. It's pretty well balanced macro-wise and keeps me full for a while. Is oatmeal an option? I will sometimes get oatmeal and add raisins and walnuts if that is available.1
-
I usually do coffee, a bunch of fruit, and savory oats (oatmeal with peanut butter and hot sauce). If I'm going to have a very active day, I might add a bagel.0
-
I don't trust restaurants to cook eggs for me. They usually add butter and milk to the egg mix and then cook in additional butter or oil. It helps to not only thicken up the egg mix, but it also enhances the taste. When I get restaurant/hotel breakfast, I do 2 hard boiled or hard poached eggs with spinach and tomato if available. I might eat a piece of toast if I'm in the mood.
At a buffet, I look for the simplest items available. I don't really like sweet breakfast stuff so I don't care for pastries, pancakes, waffles, oatmeal or cereal. If smoked salmon is available, I'd devour that with tomato slices and red onion rings.1 -
I'd stick with something close to what I usually eat every morning, which is two eggs with cheese and salsa and strong cup of coffee.0
