5:2 Diet

I just started doing this, and I like the results, but I have a question for any other 5:2'ers out there. When they say "eat normally" 5 days a week, what is "normally" for you? I try to stick to 1200 calories a day on my non-fast days, but I'm wondering if I should increase that slightly to 1300 or 1400 calories on the day after a fast day, so my body doesn't think it's starving and slows my metabolism. Smart move? Or don't bother, just keep with the 1200 a day?

Your body doesn't think, and you'll have to starve yourself to get any measureable slowdown of metabolism. But anyway, you're supposed to eat at maintenance on the non-fast days. You could interpret this to maintenance at current (over)weight, or maintenance at goal (normal)weight. At any rate, 1200 is too little, and make sure you're tracking correctly so you aren't inadvertently eating double of what you intended.3

The way 5:2 is set up you're supposed to eat at maintenance on those days. Otherwise you're averaging 1000 calories a day, which is too low.2
