Overwhelmed

Ugh. I'm a month out from graduating from college with my master's degree. I'm 23 years-old, still need a job, have to be moved out by the end of May. Went to the doctor today to discuss a medication and I weigh 307 pounds at 5 foot 5. I've never weighed this much before. My last breaking point was 272 before I started dieting. I got down to 229, got busy, and let it go again. Mentally, I still am in the mindset that I am around 270, not 307. I can't continue on this path but I don't have much motivation right now. I can't keep letting it go though. I've considered going to Overeaters Anonymous for support but am not sure about that. When I was in high school, I was involved with weight watchers and may try to get in that again once I get a job. Once I have a job and more of a schedule, I plan on looking at gyms and possibly a personal trainer to get me started. I've never really been in a gym because of social anxiety so I would want something smaller. Not sure what to do about anything!

Start by counting calories. Get in the habit of logging your intake, no matter what. Good or bad.1

Don't try and over-complicate things. Keep it simple and hopefully you'll feel less overwhelmed and more in control.
Just start with 3 steps:
1. Get a food scale and weight EVERYTHING
2. Log everything that passes your lips
3. Use the information in your log to make *small* changes to bring your calories consumption under your target
It's all about calories in vs calories out so don't make it more difficult than it needs to be!
g'luck.2 -
The replies suggesting logging everything you eat or drink are spot on. I've just started doing that myself and it has been pretty eye-opening. I wish you the very best on your journey. You've got this! (And congratulations on your master's!)2

Hi
I would say logging everything is an education in itself, you start to realise exactly why you gained the weight in the first place when you see the calories in some of your favourite foods. Also drink more cause sometimes you think you’re hungry when all your body needs is water to keep you going till your next meal.1 -
I know the feeling. Make one small change at a time. I always start by logging and working on my caloric intake. I never realize just how much I'm eating when I don't log. Then you can focus on things like water intake and getting in exercise.0

Don't wait until "once I get a job" rolls around...start your weight loss journey today. Choose to use this app to log your food daily. Honestly. Everything you put in your mouth from morning til bed. Then you will start to see how much you are eating and can begin to make changes. Weight loss is not about the gym, it is about what you eat and what you burn. Period.
You can do this. Believe me, you have your whole life ahead of you, start living it the healthy way.1 -
Count calories, log everything you eat here.
I was a little freaked out reading your post because 307 and 272 are weights that are a big thing to me personally. 307 was my high point when I realized I was looking at potential health issues. 270-272 is where I was for many many years, most of my 20s and into my early 30s.
Now I'm 41 and 170 lb and wish I'd started counting calories way sooner. You may benefit from so many things, like OA and a gym/trainer...but you will definitely see losses on the scale with just using this website daily.2
