Hi. So I've hit a bit of a wall and I'm not sure if I'm either not eating enough calories or too many. So far, I've lost about 20lbs which is fantastic but I'm now 14 lbs away from my target goal. Up until now , I've been eating about 1300/1400kcal daily and doing 30 minutes of activity a day (which is either running or kettlbells). You might think that many calories or little but I eat healthy and eat slow release foods. I'm also a stay at home mum running after two toddlers so I'm busy. Last week, being Easter, I kinda fell off the wagon and ate LOTS chocolate eggs, and I was dreading the scales. But I only put up 1lb!! Which shocked me. Because I ate at least another 500-1000 cal a day(no joke)! So am I not eating enough in general? Any advice?

One pound of fatty tissue equals 3500 calories.
If you aren't losing weight, you're eating too much, not too little.
As you lose weight, max weightloss rate drops.
Weight always fluctuates, and "water weight" can easily mask a week or two of modest, but real, fat loss (or gain).
What you eat is fine, but not what determines weight loss.6 -
So if you ate 500-1000 cals extra a day that's around 3500-7000 calories in a week which is the equivalent of a pound - 2 pounds which is likely your calorie deficit + a bit over maintenance.
Why would you think you're not eating enough if you have gained weight?
You haven't hit a wall, you just overate for a week. Get back to your deficit, log accurately and it'll come back off.3 -
As the others say, you over ate for a week, get back to your usual eating pattern and all will be well.
If you were losing at a higher rate per week than expected then that would be yes, you might be eating too little but it takes time to work that out because of your recent egg fest plus other fluctuations that happen as well naturally need to be taken into account. You can adjust your calories as necessary in a few weeks either way according to how your weight loss is going.4
