Will eating alot of salt make the scale go up?

I'm no nutritionist but iv always heard salt makes you retain water. I went over my salt recommendation on mfp for today I was just wondering if salt intake would affect my weight even tho I dnt go over my daily calories?

If it affects your weight, it will simply be water weight and will show a temporary spike in your scale reading. I can easily show a gain of 3-4 pounds after a particularly high sodium day, but it's back to normal 2-3 days later.

It will have nothing to do with actual fat loss, as long as you're not routinely exceeding your calorie goal.

I love salt but it hasnt affected my once a week weigh ins. If I weighed in every day....possibly. Thats why I choose once a week.

It makes my weight go up for a day, if I eat a lot of salt like eating at McDonald's.

Salt will likely cause your weight to go up the next day, but it is only water and will go back down again ;)

Weighing daily helps me understand the effects of salt (and carbs, etc.). But weighing daily isn't for everyone.

Salt (more than normal, not necessarily excess) affects the scale. Carbs (more than normal, not necessarily excess) affects the scale . A bunch of other silly things affect the scale (exercise, inflammation, healing, hormones, you name it) affect the scale.

Calories affect fat stores. Worry about calories
