Muscle Soreness

I’ve been going to the gym now for just over 2 months now and doing well (2 stone now lost). The thing is.... no matter how hard I work out I’m not sore the next day, my legs feel heavy and that’s about it. Is it just a matter of I’m not trying hard enough ? Putting maximum effort in each time I go (5/6 times a week), I’d hate to think that I’m not working hard enough. Any comments gratefully appreciated x

I don't get DOMS either.... My husband jokes that I don't train hard enough, not funny! ;)
(he gets no sympathy from me when he can't move properly because of his DOMS)

No one has been able to give me a reason why - I've been trained by lots of people in various ways, trying to get me to feel something.... But, Nada.

Hard workouts don't always result in DOMS, it probably isn't that you aren't working hard enough. What are you doing in the gym? Running doesn't make me sore at all, but lifting heavy weights will often lead to soreness. Might be a simple case of WHAT you're doing. Otherwise, rejoice in the fact that you don't feel sore! It's a blessing!

Soreness doesn't equate quality of your workout.

DOMS will occur when you are new or more sensitive to a movement. After a few times your body adapts and DOMS will not happen if the routine is the same.

I rarely get DOMS as well, unless I'm doing some kind of NEW high rep isolation move for a muscle group that doesn't get much love.

    I wouldn't worry.

DOMs is not an indicator of a good workout. DOMs is an indicator that you're doing something new and/or working muscles in some manner that they're not used to.

Most people who workout regularly don't get DOMs unless they're doing something foreign...like I rock climb maybe once per month and I'm always sore for a couple days afterwards because I don't do it with enough frequency to avoid DOMs.

I lift regularly and am rarely sore unless I've had some time off.

You are lucky not to be sore! It sounds like you're really dedicated.

Totally depends on the person and on the workout. I don't think it's necessary to be sore to get a benefit from exercise!

BTW: Squats always make me sore no matter how much I do them!

soreness has little to do with how hard your workout was, so consider yourself lucky and keep crushing it ;)
  • Thanks everyone! That’s all really positive stuff for me. Like i said, fairly new to the gym so at the moment I’m doing between 45/50 mins of cardio then gradually building on the weights. Haven’t had any muscle soreness since the first few sessions tbh. Getting results that I’m super proud of but couldn’t understand the lack of soreness. I shall take it for now that I’m lucky!
