BMR is the amount of calories your body burns just by living. TDEE is your BMR multiplied by a factor that accounts for all of your movement throughout the day, whether it be work, exercise, running errands, taking care of kids, socializing, etc. To lose weight, you need to eat less than your TDEE. Usually a deficit of about 20% will do.

Note: if you follow MFP's calorie goals, it is set up as NEAT, which is a bit different from TDEE in that it does NOT include exercise. This is why if you do exercise you should be eating at least a portion of those calories back with MFP.

BMR is the amount of calories needed to keep your organs functioning and your brain working as if you were not active laying down.

TDEE is the inclusion of calories required for your set activity level(daily walking, moving arms, carrying things ect) that you picked plus any additional purposeful exercise above that.
