    We call those scalloped potatoes here and they are nomnomnom

    Yeah.. here too, usually the potatoes are sliced and layered.. I prefer to boil the potato and then roughly mash with a fork, leaving some bigger chunk. The cream absorbs in and makes the potato super creamy... not just potato slices with sauce.
