Having Fun?

This is a weird and unusual side-effect and I wasn't entirely sure where to post! But I wondered if there were any other nerds/dieters/scientists out there that are experiencing the same ...

I am enjoying this whole experience, perhaps, a little more than I would like to admit. It's fun! I love our little charts, targets, goals and aims. I am experimenting more in the kitchen, adding and changing bits which aren't benefiting me, and so on! Food has moved from something scoffed and craved to an experiment as I try to hack exactly what goes into my system and the benefits I get from it.

Something at the back of my brain is telling me this shouldn't be fun! Diets should be hard and strict ... not feel like a laboratory! I used to believe it was all about cutting back but right now I am eating more than before - just healthier. This is weird!

It's not meant to be hard and strict, that's just what the people who sell stuff to the vulnerable want you to believe.

I really enjoy the data side of things too and the whole experience of losing weight without starving myself and gradually improving my fitness has been rather freeing!

Yes! I don't always enjoy it (of course), but I enjoy the data collection and analysis. Back when I was first starting, I listened to a podcast about how the first attempts at weightloss or fitness are mostly about data collection and patience - you may not see results right away but you are collecting information and, over time, you see patterns emerge and figure out what works best for you. This has been very true for me! I've gotten data about my fitness and activity (fitbit heart rate monitor), about my nutrition (myfitnesspal), about how my hormones affect my efforts on a monthly basis, etc. It's interesting! I never knew my body had so much to tell me if only I listened.

I think, like most things ,the novelty will wear off.

    Or maybe it wont.

Myself i wouldnt say it is fun - it isnt difficult either just mundane to me now, like, say, teeth cleaning - not difficult or unpleasant but not quite exactly fun either.
