"If every day were like today, you'd weigh ___ in 5 weeks"

This shows up when the food diary is closed for the day. I have backed up and looked to see if the number ever comes close for me and it never has, as far as I can see. Does it pan out for you?

Actually, mine does. 5 weeks ago, it said I'd weigh 109.5 pounds. I did NOT want to lose any more weight, but didn't believe it. I just scoffed and went about my day. 5 weeks later, I hop on the scale and it reads, "109.5" Kinda scared me a bit, but I'm working on it.2

I hate that thing and wish there was an option to turn it off. Nobody's days are that invariable.4

Yep it comes very close for me. I put it to the test and marked on a calendar what it said. 5 weeks later it was within a 1/2 lb.0

I just had a thought. I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that I log my exercise each day and it calculates calories burned from that. I do not eat those calories back because I've read that MFP calculates them too high, but I wonder if they are using those to predict my future weight incorrectly.0 -
LOL--mine always says I'll gain weight in 5 weeks but I always lose just like I should. I wish I could turn that thing off.0

You can avoid it by not hitting “complete diary.” The only thing closing out your diary does is give you the projection. Everything is already saved when you enter it. I don’t think I have closed mine out in a few years.4 -
I like this feature on days when I've messed up and gone over, and dread the next morning's weigh-in. "If every day were like today, in five weeks you'd weigh" not all that much more, really. It helps remind me that one messed-up day isn't so bad. Keeps me from getting disheartened.6

I love this feature as it keeps me motivated... seeing what I could weigh in 5 weeks. Also like it when it highlights that your unlikely to lose anything due to going over calories as that gives me the kick that I need to get back on track. It's been pretty accurate for me.0

It's only based on if you ate the same way as you did on that actual day for 5 weeks. Most of us don't eat exactly the same way and do the same exercise day in, day out so for most of us it's moot.
It can be helpful in understanding if you've overeaten what the repercussions would be if you ate that way more often. This shows up when the food diary is closed for the day. Yes MFP can overestimate them slightly but it's not going to overestimate them by 100% so you should consider eating at least half and then adjusting based on your real world data (weight trend over 4-6 weeks). So yes when it's predicting it's based on how high a deficit you have, if you're quite active that will be a much larger deficit if you're not eating any back.3 -

It also posts to your timeline and I do love those because I love creeping on people's food.1 -
I like it! When I go over and it shows how high I could get if I keep doing it I don’t know but for me it’s enough motivation to get back on track...1

That depends ... is every day the same as the day was that you noted the weight prediction? It's just meant to be a bit of a motivator.0

Yes, that too.0 -
I've stopped clicking the completing my daily diary because I found that feature annoying rather than motivating1
