Healthy snacks for losing weight?

One of my biggest issues is finding snacks to eat that are genuinely healthy. I find myself eating/overeating things that seem healthy, but in reality aren’t.. Before trying to lose weight I’ve always been a fan of goldfish, pretzels, cheez its, granola bars, so any healthy snacks you know of that kinda can be an alternative to any of those... I’m just really in search of some good healthy snacks but ones that still taste good because right now i’m not very well educated in how to know if a food is good for you. I go off of what the snack claims to be and not the actual nutrition facts.

Some of my go-to healthy snacks are:
- A hard-boiled egg
- A banana with a tablespoon of natural peanut butter
- Yogurt with fresh fruit
- Veggies and hummus
- Cottage cheese
I still eat things like goldfish and granola bars, but I find I have to weigh out my goldfish or I'll eat half the bag lol9 -
Do you like cottage cheese? If I want something sweet, I’ll have a half cup of fat free cottage cheese mixed with a tablespoon of sugar free orange marmalade and ten fresh raspberries. It’s so good and low calories, low fat and low sugar. Plus a good source of protein1

Ice cream. peanut butter, chocolate, and cookies are some of my fav snacks to eat.8

Pretzels, Cheez-Its, and Goldfish are all salty crunchy things. Veggies and hummus might scratch that itch. Also nuts and seeds (salted, flavored, you name it). Roasted chick peas or edamame fall in that category too.
For granola bars... I eat granola bars. Some of them aren't that bad on the calories/sugar front.
But also in that sweet and chewy category are dried fruits (careful on the volume). Some protein bars are more snack sized than others. I've been liking Detour bars, the small ones are around 110 calories without being sugar laden.5 -
OP...I keep sugar free jello w/fruit cocktail (no sugar added) mixed in. No it is not ice cream. peanut butter, chocolate, and cookies but it satisfies my snacky feelings. Sometimes I put lite cool whip on top to add to the eating pleasure. I try to go light on my snacks because I would rather use my calories at meal times.
I also keep bananas and Halo mandarins around. If I have salty crunchy stuff I will eat it all.1 -
Healthy is a broad topic. For me, a snack that helps me hit protein and/or iron is a healthy snack, because I generally have a hard time hitting those targets. So I have dry cereal (one that gives me 30% of my iron RDA), cold veggie dogs, string cheese, Simply Protein snacks... Sometimes I have Fiber One bars, even if they don't help me with protein or iron; a little extra fiber is good too. I just discovered a line of seasoned roasted chickpeas. They're not bad...3

If there's room left in my calorie budget, cottage cheese 4 oz. snack ups are a go-to snack, as well as high quality peanut butter and Sunsweet Ones (AKA, prunes!). I'm terrible at eating veggies, so Libby's 4 oz. microwaveable cups of sweet peas are a low calorie snack (30 cals.). And, the PictSweet "Steam in the Box" "Farm Snacks" seem like a good snack at 80-90 cals. each (for spinach, brussel sprouts, or edamame). The little fruit cups with no sugar/light syrup can be OK, for 45-70 cals. a cup. For less nutritious sweet snacks, dark chocolate squares/bites work for me (about 40 cals. a square, depending on brand).3

my go to snacks are triscuit thins garlic/parmesan a serving is 21g about 10 crackers and some hummus for the icecream part there are pc smoothie fudge bars3

For salty crunchy but low calorie, I like homemade kale chips, sliced and salted radishes, and sheets of toasted nori.
For sweet, berries with Greek yogurt and dark chocolate.
For "I'm about to eat my own arm if I don't eat something," a few nuts, or a tablespoon of peanut butter on an apple or celery, or half a peanut butter sandwich.4 -
Mmm, I'm a fan of goldfish and cheez its too. Have you tried Cabot's snack sized sharp cheddar cheese? They're a good sub for salty and cheesy snack foods like that imo. https://www.cabotcheese.coop/seriously-sharp-cheddar-cheese-serious-snacking
I usually pair it with a small serving of nuts for some crunch or with fruit.2 -
You don't eat snacks to lose weight. In my opinion, snacking is actually a contributor to weight gain. You lose weight by eating less (and moving more). If you do snack, you can eat any food you would eat for a meal - or a typical snack food. A food you would eat for a meal, would be better for you than a typical snack food. But typical snack foods might also be more appealing to you, and that's probably why you like to snack?
Good nutrition is really not what many of us have been told (difficult, boring and strict). Nutrition is complex, but simple. No foods are in themselves healthy or unhealthy, it's about portions and proportions, frequency and context. A healthy diet is balanced and varied. You can eat what you like, and you need a lot of different foods, but you shouldn't eat too much of anything, and not in total, over time.

Snacks don’t have to contribute to weight gain and choosing ones that are nutrient dense as opposed to energy dense can be part of a healthy diet. If I didn’t have a couple snacks a day I’d be more likely to make an unhealthy choice and or overeat at mealtime. Celery sticks with some tessemae’s ranch or homemade blue cheese dressing, pistachios, raw almonds or apple are some of my go to snacks. I find it’s much better to be prepared.

has anyone else tried this? I can see substituting peanut butter, sugar free chocolate ice cream syrup. I used to like nutrilife protein powder added to sugar free pudding as a great susbstitute as a frozen dessert also; so many options there; and adding small amounts of no no toppings to avoid obscene cravings

I generally don't snack because it makes me hungrier. I think a "healthy" snack is anything that satisfies you and is something you can walk away from. For instance, when I have tried to eat jerky in the past as a snack my hunger cranks up to 11 and I have a hard time stopping. If I do try to portion control I am left completely miserable. So I don't eat jerky and I don't keep it in the house.6

I just tried oven baked or air fried chickpeas/ or garbonza beans seasoned to taste, with so many recipes on site. A good substitute for peanuts, nice protein, and good on tossed salad, also1

I love pickles. I am big on salty foods. I also love cucumber slices with salt, pepper, lemon juice, and hot sauce. I love berries and cuties too1

I get the xTreme Wellness low carb wraps - 50 cals each - and I reconstitute 2 tbs of chocolate PB2 - 45 cals - with a tiny bit of water and spread it on the wrap and roll it up. That's 95 calories and yet a near equivalent of a peanut butter sandwich with a little chocolate thrown in for good measure. A half is good for a snack but I usually have a whole one and just less frequently.
I eat a lot of fun size candy bars. Not a lot at one sitting, of course.
Like others have said, it's mostly about making it fit; none of these things are inherently bad.1 -
If I still have extra calories left for snack, I eat almonds, apple or banana. But always try to avoid snacking and focus on satisfying meal instead.1

You like salty crunchy like I do. Learn to read the nutrition labels.
I stock up on goldfish crackers after Halloween as they are prepackaged in to appropriate sizes.
Pretzels are high salt but their redeeming factor is that they are low fat.
Try dry cereal like Cheerios and air popped popcorn.
Celery has a slightly salty tang.0
