long story short, husband has been out of work for 8 months. we have blown through savings and things are starting to get hairy.

thankfully after following a good diet for 6 months I no longer feel the need to pile icecream in my face when feeling stressed or depressed. But besides my bike ride to and from my part time job daily I aomletely lack motivation to move. I havent ran in 2 weeks, not even a step.

How do I get back on track, I know that it takes one foot out the door, but my body just hurts all over and I know running again after 2 weeks of nothing its gonna hurt the knees something terrible and I will want to quit.

UGH! I hate the stupid economy and what its doing to good people.

    Hey there Dawnna....

Sounds like you're suffering from a pretty hefty bout of depression - which is not uncommon in your situation. You have a couple of options: 1) wait it out and just keep doing what you're doing 2) force yourself to do these things, even though you don't feel like it 3) find some counseling to help you through this (not sure what your sliding scale options are where you live - you'll have to call around for that) or 4) let the depression win and sink further down into the non-motivated space and crumble.

Really, it is NOT uncommon in major life-changing events and unemployment is considered one of those in conjunction with the financial woes. I would suggest any one of the 1-3's and perhaps look at what options are available to you for any and all kinds of assistance in order to help alleviate some of the financial burdens that go along with unemployment.

Write me a private message. I have some things you can do to help yourself, your family and give you some breathing space so that you feel better enough to keep going with your workouts - not doing it will make you feel worse. Exercise counters the chemicals that are associated with depression. :-)

Oh goodness, I feel your pain. My husband has only been working part time for four months. I am on leave as a teacher, so I couldn't go back to work. My husband has been looking for any kind of work. Our savings is gone and we already borrowed money...blah, blah, blah. I feel like I have been a roller coaster going too fast and out-of-control. The only thing that keep me going is my faith in God and nothing in this life can take that away.

The good news is I go back to work in August and I found MFP. There have been days when I just didn't feel like doing my workout, but I climbed on that elliptical and cranked up my Christian music and did it. I always feel better after I do it. I feel like I have some control over something in my life, when everything is out-of-control. So add me as a friend, we can encourage each other!!!

While I haven't had employment issues to deal with I can sympathize because when money is tight it can be scary. I applaud you for not turning to food for comfort and even though it is hard to continue with the exercise it is the best thing you can do for yourself. Stress can add on the pounds so the exercise will help with that as well as eating a nutritionally balanced diet. I will keep you in my prayers for doors to be opened. :flowerforyou:

Thank you all for your good thoughts. I still havent gotten back to running but continue to ride my bike about 7 miles a day top and from work. I have commited myself however to run the half Seattle marathon in November so training is starting this week. knowing I have to do this and having a schedule really should kick me into gear.

    I will keep you posted.
