Menopause, hormones & weight gain

Hi,
Premature menopause in early 40s due to surgery. I was actually doing pretty well (not thin, but not obese and thinking more about strength training/maintaining than about weight loss) until a few weeks ago. I just started hormone replacement and weight is creeping up and my clothes are tight. Not sure if it's age or hormones, but whatever it is, I need to pay more attention to diet and exercise.
Plus I'm really short (5'0), so it doesn't take more than 2-3 pounds to show up on me.
I LOVE challenges, but tend to do better in smaller groups - especially if there's some kind of team competition.
