Guarding Against Infection

ARGHHH, those of you who follow me know I've been dealing with a nasty MRSA Infection which has caused some issues with my daily training. I have just learned that my left foot will need surgery. As you know, ol' Coach Mike (PXMike) DOES NOT know the meaning of the word 'Quit', and I WILL get past this. We cannot be positive, but we believe the cause of all this is bacteria from my gym's locker room and/or showers. Even though my gym is high end, with extremely well kept facilities, and I ALWAYS wear Water Socks in both the locker room and shower stalls, this particular bacteria is HIGHLY resilient. Ergo, the name Methicillin-RESISTANT Staphylococcus Aureus, or MRSA. In layman's terms...an Antibiotic Resistant Infection, which can be particularly problematic if, like me, you are a Juvy (Type I) Diabetic.

SO PLEASE, when tending to your pre and post workout locker room and shower responsibilities, take time to THOROUGHLY take all precautions to guard against these nasty little beasties. Here are some simple guidelines you can use to keep yourself infection free...

Add hand sanitizer to your soap, and apply between toes, fingers and all crevices.

BE SURE YOU ARE DRY, before dressing, using a clean towel. (Bring one from home!)

Cover all cuts and breaks in skin.

Don't spare the hand sanitizer, but be VERY WARY of the use of Antibiotics usage as studies have proven even occasional use can weaken your body's immune system

Lastly, NEVER NEVER EVER share soap, or any other hygiene product or implements!!!!

Stay 'Healthy' My Friends!
