I don't think I would replace "real" vacuuming with it. But, a midweek floor spruce up while I am at work would be nice. Or do they all just stink too much for that?

I'm pretty sure this is the reason they were invented.

I have a roomba 650, and I do like it. I don't typically use the time program function though because I prefer to be able to be sure nothing is in the floor right before I turn it on. I typically turn it on right before I leave the house. It aggravates my OCD for there to be dust bunnies that I can see under my couches while I do yoga, and the roomba (my kids named him R5) keeps that under control for me. I do use my regular vacuum some as well, but the roomba really helps with maintaining a clean floor IMO. I do not have any carpet in my house though, so I can't say how well it would do on carpet.

We had one and still ended up having to vacuum ourselves. It was also supposed to be a heavier duty "pet" model...couldn't handle the hair from our two dogs and two cats.

I have a roomba, and we have hardwoods with rugs. It doesn't replace a regular vacuum, but it does help keep the hair tumbleweeds (3 female humans and a dog mean hair everywhere) under control and pick up some of the random bits of stuff that seem to appear anywhere my children go. My dog is afraid of it, so I will usually set it up to do one area per day (living/dining or kitchen) while we go for a walk. It does help get the dust bunnies that collect under furniture, and I feel like the house is a little cleaner/more under control when I get into a good rhythm of using it.
