I currently own a charge 2 but have been getting frustrated about not being able to accurately log my swimming and aqua aerobic classes. (As well as the fact that my fitbit never seems to sync to add any extra calories i can eat). I also walk a lot and now the gym has finally calmed back down, lift weights, so i need a good all round fitbit.
I have seen there are now 2 options for swimming and heartrate monitors, can any users of either the versa or ionic share any insights as to how they are in the pool, how robust they are please. I thought i liked the versa, but it doesnt look to be as robust as the ionic, but then the versa looks smaller. Can the special edition versa be used in the pool, or is the strap metal?
Sorry for what may seem to be silly questions, but this will be my 4th fitbit, and this time i want to make sure i get it right lol
Many thanks
Tracey

Personally, i have found that none of the displays in FB are large enough to read while swimming.
TheY also doubt look lunge they can withstand hitting the lane rope.
Many of the FB only count time and strokes, not distance or pace.
I finally gave in and bought a Garmin Fenix 5X. Love it. I travel. Some of the pools I swim in China are 20 meters, 22 meters, and even 50 meters. At home it is 25 yards at the Y. The Garmin lets me easily set pool length.
Other features include topographical mapping for hiking.
Depending on your budget, check out some if the Garmin devices too.

I second the recommendation of the Garmin multisport watches depending on what your budget looks like. The, Vívoactive 3, Forerunner 735, and Forerunner 935 would all work well. The Fenix series would as well but for the price the Forerunner 935 is a better deal (and the same software).

I just bought the Fenix 5 and I love it. I upgraded from the vivo HR and it does a much better job as noted above. I blew through two fitbits (couldn't read them and the motion in the pool would stop mid workout). The Fenix is amazing, mine cost $550. After I bought it I saw one for $479 so shop around.

I switched from Fitbit after never being able to sync. I have the garmin vivoactive 3 now and love it.

Thanks for everyones input. If i were buying my first tracker i would be scouring the market to see everything out there as i also get frustrated that my fitbit doesn't sync, but i have a lot of my extended family also use fitbit and we often challenge each other so moving brand i would lose all that. Im not ruling garmin out, but i really need to take a good look at one... its a shame you cant try before you buy
