Baby Steps

Hi everyone. My name is Stephen and I am 40 years old, I have been living my life as if I am indestructible, life in the fast lane. I am on high blood pressure medication (results of life in the fast lane). With that being said, I have not done a particularly good job taking care of my body. Towards the end of 2017 I had noticed a decline in my health and overall well being.
My average weight when I was 30 was 195 pounds. I have gained about 45 pounds over the years and I worry that eventually its going to catch up with my health and I haven't liked what I have been seeing in the mirror for a long time. Especially pictures. I didn't realize how out of control my gut had gotten.
What have I been doing:
When I started this weight loss journey I weighed 239 pounds. That was Jan 1st 2018. I have been apart of the three mile club now for about 10 years, that was the extent of my exercising, unless you count 12 ounce curls. LOL
First thing I did was to implement "Baby Steps" (the name I have given to ease into this lifestyle change). I first cut out all liquids except water (and coffee). I have pretty much cut out beer, but do enjoy bourbon. I portioned my meals. We have Fuel Up by Kcal here where I am. Its really good. Its a meal plan where you can choose how many grams of protein and carbs and veggies you want. Food comes precooked. All you have to do is throw it in the microwave. That has helped me immensely with portion control.
MFP is amazing and I have actually been trying to cook meals according to the the recipes that I have found in the blogs. I am trying to train myself to cook healthy with portion control in mind.
I have been logging every meal (even supplements and vitamins I take). My calorie goal is 1660. I however barely scratch 1100 daily (which I am assuming isn't that good). I run three times a week (and recently added some strength training) and average about 10,000 steps a day. I am now stuck at 220 pounds. I have been hovering around 220 for almost two weeks now. I have been told about plateauing and now I am teetering all over it. Tomorrow I am going to start intermittently fasting 16:8 for two weeks and see if I can get off this plateau.
After the first month of my journey I had lost about 8 pounds and my blood pressure was completely under control. To the extent that my Doctor recommended that I come off the blood pressure meds as they were making my blood pressure too low. That's a win! I am starting to see the health benefits and i'm loving it.
I love using this app and look forward to any recipes, advice, or encouragement ya'll wanna give.
Best regards,
Stephen
