6lbs to go and bleeding starving

Hello fellow fitness pals!
I joined here to lose half a stone, and then to keep track of healthy eating.
It’s been a week, and I’m so hungry !!!!! Though, this could be because:
- I’m only a week in
- I’m just generally hungry all the time
- Stress
- PMS
I’m 5’2 and now weigh 121lbs, therefore only have a target intake of a measly 1200 which I’ve successfully gone over a few days in a row now (how does one try and prevent being hungry with only 1200 calories!!)
I’m just wondering if anyone has any inputs, advice or support? Add me if you’d like, I only have 2 friends!

I have you EXACT stat's! I increase my daily activity so I can eat a little more than 1200 cals, and I also don't eat until the afternoon since I prefer to eat more later in the day. It works for me.
I walk for an hour during my lunch break and get around 12000-15000 steps per day, and usually eat more like 1400-1500 cals daily. I've been losing very slowly but steadily since January7 -
Look at the make-up of what you're eating (macros and nutrition density) and test and adjust, since hunger can be different for different people. For example, I've learned that I need to include a balance of carbs, protein, and fats (with an emphasis on protein) in my diet in order to not feel hungry. Also, whole, simple foods are more filling; for example, eating an ear of corn is more filling than eating the same amount of calories of corn chips.6

Yeah, 1200 calories suck. I'm in the same boat. What helps is eating lots of low calorie high fiber/high protein foods spread into 5 small meals. Egg whites, veggies, chicken breast, low sugar fruits (strawberries, peaches, oranges, grapefruit). Try to eat a combination of protein/high fiber/fats together in the same meal for satiety. Like greek yogurt with berries, avocado on whole grain toast with sliced cucumbers on the side, or a salad with shredded chicken, black beans, sour cream, and salsa. Feel free to add me as a friend and check out my diary! It took a lot of trial and error to find a way of eating that worked for me.8

I also eat 100-200 extra if I'm PMS'ing or working out. Sometimes you have to loosen the reigns a bit to keep yourself from going crazy.6

If you only have six pounds to lose, you shouldn’t try to lose them faster than .5/week. 1200 calories is just too low for your weight and activity level, and your body is doing everything in its power to tell you so.7

I'm same height and 1200 wouldn't cut it for me. Aim for 0.5 lb a week, that should give you around 1350-1400 cals plus if you exercise you can eat most of those cals back.
FWIW I lost 0.5lb a week eating an average of 1700 gross cals ( I had 20lbs to lose).
When you don't have much to lose weight loss is slow so have patience.5 -

It was 1lbs but putting it to 0.5 was definitely the right thing to do!

1200 is starving... I don’t do it anymore. Then again I’m 5’10” and highly active2

Go for a walk, the longer the better. If you walk at 7 kph for an hour, that's an extra 350 calories you can eat. (I figured this on my calculator for a treadmill with a level walking surface, so if you've got access to a treadmill, you can set it on an incline and increase your calorie burn even more.) I walk 5 km in 52 minutes at a 15% incline and burn 696 calories at a go, but I'm heavier than you. At your weight, it would be 558 calories. Think of the food you could have!3

That said, 1200 calories per day is really aggressive for a measly 6 Lbs. You're at a healthy weight, so it's going to be slow whether you like it or not. I'd just change your rate of loss to 1/2 Lb per week or 1 Lb per week at most.5 -
When I get to the last 20-30 lbs, my intention is to eat at maintenance for my goal weight. It'll happen naturally even if slowly. That's near what I'm doing now, though, so it really isn't going to be a big change for me. Exercise, of course, will increase the available calories too, so yay exercise.3
