I have become very frustrated in the past two days with my weight loss. I'm a shorty - 5'1 and I am currently 145lbs. at my heaviest I was 163lbs. I'm nearly down a huge milestone of 20lbs and for my small frame I do see some difference. In my gym clothes I look great and I feel slimmer. It has to be the best feeling ever. But two days ago I decided to try on some clothes I haven't worn in about a year. The dress in particular that really sent me down this rabbit hole of being discouraged about the near 20lb weight loss was a dress I wore when I was pretty heavy. Some dresses I had tried on felt loose around the waist as they were all an UK size 12, a 10 might have been too tight but at least the dresses feel looser. But this one damn navy dress has made me feel like my weight loss isn't big by any means. When I put the dress on it felt pretty snug against my body and I was so shocked that it fit me well and wasn't lose like the others, despite it being a size 12 too. And I recall wearing this dress a year ago at my heaviest and fitting in it, but how could have I fit into it THEN and now it literally feels the same?! Of course I will continue my weight loss but I am so upset by this and have literally been obsessing with taking photos of my body and trying on as many older clothes as I can and trying to see if there is any difference. Has anyone experienced this? I'm at a loss and I wish to snap out of it somehow..!

I can wear the same size dress if I'm 128 or 150. Clothes are weird.
Is it stretchy?1 -
Congrats on your 20 lb loss. It is not possible for all your clothes to be looser except one item which fits exactly the same. You have a poor memory of how it used to fit. Our self perception and memory are the absolute worst indicators of progress. It is probably a favorite dress that you want to look extra fabulous in, so your perceptions of both before and now are skewed.6

I can see the difference in the vast majority of my clothes, but I have one pair of jeans and one dress that seem exactly the same. I assume that I used to wear them even tighter than the rest of my clothes. The pair of jeans have always been my husband's favorite, so I probably felt fabulous in them even if they were cutting off my circulation, while the dress is my favorite color.2 -
You've done fantastic, you've lost 20 lbs and your letting one dress freak you out?2

I have dress pants in 8, 10, and 12 (US sizes) that fit great. I also have dress pants in 12 that I can't button up. There is no standardization to sizes. Let it go.4

Try not to fret, and yes, it has happened to many of us. For me it was starting the diet in size 14 pants, and 6 months later (20 Pounds lighter) still wearing the same darn pants. Funny thin was the next month I was in size 7 pants (same brand and style). Not only are sizes wierd, how and where we lose the weight is odd too.0

maybe you are retaining some water? that can make clothes feel like they dont fit like they did before. I have the issue with jeans. some days they fit loose and others they seem like they arent going to go on or even button. try again in a few days(especially if you arent near that time of the month)

If the dress isn’t stretchy, it must have been one tiiight fit earlier. Clothes are weird and we lose weight from weird places. When I first started losing, all my sleeveless dresses became too big from the top, as if I had lost weight specifically only from my upper back and upper chest. Yesterday I tried on a top with snug sleeves, still snug. I still wear the same pants size. The only clothing difference, besides the sleeveless dresses, is when I go shopping for new jeans. I always buy the same model and size, and now new jeans fit me when I buy them and not after a week of stretching them out and cutting off my circulation.0

You know you've lost weight. You know your measurements are smaller. Other clothes fit better/looser. You have obviously changed since you last tried to eear the dress. Wear the dress if you still like it and it fits well or get rid of it.
When I dropped 25 lbs I had clothes that I had worn at my highest weight that still fit fine. I think it can depend on how it fit before and how the item is constructed.
