I have started to hike over the weekends and it is mostly 5-6hrs hike. I started to log them in MFP and it shows me that I burn 1000+ calories. shouldnt it be less?
Also, for a person who hikes with not a big hikegear/ equipment and just a camelback type backpack, how much calories do they burn?

I used my heart rate monitor for my hike yesterday and for a 1.5 hour hike (3.5 miles) I burned 652. This was walking 1 dog and wearing a camel back with water/snacks. I guess it depends on how strenuous the trail is too.
When I walk on pavement for the same time/mileage it is about half that.
Given the burn I got from my hike, I would say yours are probably close. Though I don't go on a regular basis so can't say for sure. Hopefully someone else will have something to add!0 -
Same here. Just came back from a 5.5 hours hiking and my heart rate monitor says something close to 3200 cal. Beats me!0
