Trying to gain weight after 40

Hello I'm struggling with this I'm trying to gain weight I'm eating 6000 cal a day been doing it for a month and I weight train trying to gain weight plus mussel my protein intake is about 200 grams my carbs are over 600 I'm getting stronger but I'm not seeing any real growth what else can I do besides sit on the couch and wait to gain fat and then hit the gym

    You're probably nowhere near 6000 cals then

    It's be easier for you if you got a portion of your calories from fat as well.

    It's almost always the case that people trying to lose weight will underestimate their calories, and people trying to gain overestimate them. You could easily be off by 1000 calories or even more. Try weighing your food for a few days and see what they really are.

    If you're eating 6000 calories a day and not gaining weight, you're not eating 6000 calories per day. Not a chance. Just about anybody (except maybe a few elite/Olympic-caliber athletes who train like animals every day) would gain substantial weight (and a lot of fat) eating 6000 calories per day.

    Just to add a little context, what's your height, weight and age?

    I'm 41 years old 6 ft 145 was 140 lbs so I guess something is happening

    ...but the calorie amounts from food labels and this app are based on weight of the food.....so if you're not weighing the food, how do you use them?

    I can only guess that something in your counting is way off. I'm 6 inches taller and 55 pounds heavier than you, and I'd gain somewhere around 20-30 pounds a month eating 6000 calories per day.

    If you are not gaining weight over a month, up your calories until you are and hold steady until it starts to plateau then repeat.

    Keep in mind as we get 40+ of age we can be more resistant to to things that help build muscle if we were say 18. Training doesn't always produce results as fast unfortunately.

    Our protien might have to be better quality and we might need more protien than years before for muscle synthesis to take place.

    Thanks I started to weigh my food just to make sure and I was off by about 500 calories lunch and dinner if you add it up over a month it's way under what I need

    I was way off my cal.count I know I have a high metabolism but I knew it wasn't that fast thanks for the tip
