Running Shoes

Hi my fellow fitness friends! I’m in the market for new running shoes. I currently have Nike Roshes and before that, I had Nike Lunarglide 6s. What does everyone recommend? I run mainly on paved roads, and might use the shoes for indoor workouts as well.

Your best bet is to go to a running store and have your gait analyzed to see if you need a shoe that will support pronation or if you need a neutral shoe. It's much more important than the brand. If you pronate and get a neutral shoe, it's going to be uncomfortable and lead to pain...same if you're neutral and get a shoe that supports a pronating foot.

The folks at the store will bring you several different pairs/brands of shoes to try based on your needs and you can see which is the most comfortable.

ETA: don't use your new shoes for other workouts...save them for the miles. Use your old shoes are get another pair of training shoes depending on what you're doing.

Everyone's feet, gait, and mileage are different, so most runners would say to go to a local running store, share your goals with them, show them the wear pattern on your existing shoes, and then take their advice.

My old shoes were discontinued, so I had to find a new model. My local running store set me up with Saucony Kinvaras, in a men's size to suit my foot shape and gait. Very happy with them.

I have Brooks, but I only bought my original pair purely for my size & liked the look of them, when I needed a new pair I bought the same again as I have'nt had any problems whilst using them.
Have you had your gait analysis done? Just thinking that may help your decision?

Agree with @cwolfman13 and @__TMac__ - its best to go to a running store.

I recently went to one in my town and I was very happy with the service. They asked me about how I would be using them, watched me walk to study my gait, etc. The shoes they recommended (Saucony Ride 10) have worked out great!

I've got about 10 pairs of shoes based on what I want/need/like. But that's based on what I want/need/like and may have nothing to do with what you want/need/like. So the best shoe for you is what ever fits you the best. If you've had good luck with nike, then I'd start looking there. Try on a bunch, see what feels the best and what supports your foot/stride the best.

Getting fitted is rarely a bad thing, but not always necessary.

Is there a reason you're considering changing brands and models? I find what I like and continue. But, that just might be me. You have to use what you like to use. My shoe may not be right for you, Your shoe may not be right for me. And what may be popular may not be right for anyone. Get thee to a running store for a fitting and find what's right for you.

The best shoe is one suited to your feet and gait. Go to a running store and get fitted. Don't just buy whatever brand someone on the internet recommends. What works for my feet may not work for your feet.

Not to mention that most shoe manufacturers make a variety of shoes with a variety of fits... so even within a given brand, 1 shoe may be great and another may be awful.

I’ve used brooks, Nike, new balance, saucony, tried adidas but they were all way too narrow for my fat feet. Saucony are my favorite by far. Fit the best and most comfortable.

So, I like the Asics I bought, and bought another pair around Christmas, just to have on hand (they were on sale).

Then I decided to try a mid drop instead and dropped ~$200 on some Hoka's. Bad idea. Gave me shin splints. Not sure if it was the drop, not enough support or what but I put less than 100KM on them when I gave up on them.

So, even though they were good shoes and should have worked, I am back to my Asics. Managed to get $100 for them so I'm not out a lot.

I run in Saucony currently. My wife just got fitted today and ended up with Asics. I’m more neutral, and she over pronates. Go to a running store

Asics and my foot shape did not get along. At all. If I'm going to wear a structured shoe, New Balances work best for me, but honestly for my very sore feet, I'm most comfortable in my Merrell's. However, I wouldn't necessarily recommend those to most people. I am surprised how much better I do in them, tbh. I can run longer with less foot pain.

The Lunarglide is a stability shoe (good if you overpronate, very bad if you do not). I can't find much on the Roshes - they seem to be the lower end department store Nikes.

My suggestion echos the others - get fitted at a real running store (not a sporting goods store or outlet). If you truly need stability shoes, the Lunaglides are great (assuming you liked them of course). Just don't get hung up on the brand - Nike and every other major shoe company make good shoes.

Every foot is different. I’d recommend visiting a specialty running store. As for me I currently run roads in Adidas Boston, Adios. Saucony Kinvaras. Brooks Ghost, Defyance. Nike Zoom Streak 6.

I've run in brooks, saucony, asics, mizuno - unfortunately every 2-3years manufactuers make changes to styles and they don't work for me any more - currently i'm wearing a brand called Topo Athletic - they have a wide/square toe-box which has helped on my long distance runs - but like everyone else has said you - you need to figure out what works for you based on running style

I run in Saucony Tiumph ISO 4 now. I started with Adidas Duramo 7s, which were great. I then went to a running store, was analysed and bought a pair of trainers that felt very comfortable in store (Mizuno Wave Ultima 8), but when I started running in them they were awful. Too wide at the front and not supportive enough (neutrals, but so wide it affected my gait and prevented me from running any further than about 2k).

I am a UK size 8 (US 10), but in a lot of running shoes size 8s are slightly too short in length, yet men's sizing is generally too wide for me. Very frustrating.

This is based on nothing more than aesthetics but I hate Hokas with a passion. They look so awkward and goofy to me.

I tried to run in something similar to HOKA and had nothing but issues

My current road runners are Brooks Ghost 10s....they're comfortable and they were reasonably priced.
