Hi All,

Currently back on MFP after using it on and off for years - This time with a long term goal to lose roughly half my body weight! Looking to get in touch with any other big losers at any stage of their journey to help keep me on track to becoming a healthier me!

All the best for your new start - the first step is always difficult, the second day gets a little easier. I have to lose about 70 kg - started on 170 kg some 6 weeks ago, as of today I have lost 10 kg. I joined a gym - so far about twice a week - and I walk every day, at least half an hour each time. Food: Bread is just not good for me, never has been. I eat lots of vegetables, meat, eggs and some fruit once in a while. I stick to the calories calculated by MFP: 1.800 calories a day, with exercise a little more. I do not set myself a long term goal - steady does it. But as soon as I fit onto a bicycle, I will start reading it - and I am looking forward to that day.

You've certainly made a great start, well done - It's really inspiring to see someone with a similar amount to lose as me making such progress

The good news is that it can be done!

In a bit over a year and a half, I’ve lost 217 lb and am now only 9lb from my goal.

Focus on each small victory, and find non-food things for celebration and enjoyment purposes. If you believe you can do it, and you’re willing to really go for it and rearrange a lot of your habits of thought, you can get there.

The other good news is that the end is even better than you might think :)

What also helps is knowing what motivates you. For me, for example, it turns out I don’t really give a *kitten* about my health, which may be one reason why all my previous attempts at weight loss failed; I was trying to motivate myself with things I should have cared about, but didn’t.

Vanity, on the other hand... I may not be willing to count calories to improve my heart health, but I will count the little sods all day and night to get down to a more extensive range of clothes options :)
