So is there any rule of thumb on how often to recalculate your daily calorie intake. I am staring at 252 lbs and my daily intake recommendation is 2370 calories. Which has worked really well so far for my goal of 2 lbs per week. I am sure at some point I am going to need to adjust that as I lose weigh but how often? every 5 lbs, 10 lbs thoughts?

Doubt it unless you up your activity level or lower it. Best of luck to you :)

If you're using MFP's default numbers, it should prompt you to recalculate after every ten pounds lost. If you've any custom goals, though, the system assumes you can handle it and won't prompt you.

Personally, I recalculate after I've hit a plateau for 2 months or when I transition from bulk to cut depending on what my training goals are. But remember that it isn't just about adjusting calories, you may want to play around with adjusting macros to better reach your goals. Examples of this would be increasing protein, decreasing carbs and sugar, etc.

Yeah, recalculate in GOALS every ten pounds.

BUT! When you start feeling horrible and tired and irritable and fatigued and snappy and you don't want to do anything and you can't even get motivated to finish the laundry? Time to either lower your GOAL (to "lose one pound per week") or take a diet break and eat at maintenance for a few days. For me that was at about 30-40 pounds away from my goal weight.

It's not advisable to try to stick with "lose two pounds per week" for very long. Some people say to switch to "1.5 lbs" but I just jumped down to "lose one pound" - I was really hungry.

I updated my goals every 10 pounds. With theae last 10 pounds I have been updating every pound. I only lose a few calories each time but with such a small deficit I think it matters!

Yeah my maintenance weight goal is around 210 -215. But I had planned on slowing it down the closer I got to my goal weight.
