Chronic Snacker...

So, I haven't been on MFP long...but one thing I have noticed is that I am a chronic snacker. I don't have actual meals. I just have a bite here and there, and then when I go to my room at night, I'm always taking food in there too. I'm also a type 1 diabetic. I guess I'm wondering who else has this problem. I'm seeking friends...or maybe just that one friend who totally gets where I'm coming from.

snacking is fine, hit your calorie goal and over time you will lose weight.

I had to substitute fresh, raw vegetables and to a lesser degree, fruits, for the higher calorie snacks (since I snack so often). I also use low calorie "dips," like an Indian eggplant puree recipe I like, or a flavored balsamic (fig or chocolate). So I still snack a lot, but it's on nutrient rich, low calorie stuff. Eventually, I didn't miss the gourmet jelly beans or chocolate chips so much. Babybel light cheese has become my buddy before bed.

try drinking a glass of water before you eat any snack--it's surprising how often the urge you feel is really thirst

I used to eat a lot of snacks. I found that if I ate bigger meals then I didn't have the desire to snack.

Try eating more protein with your meals (or the snacks you consider to be breakfast, lunch and dinner). It has really helped with my snacking appetite.

That said, I love snacking and I put absolutely everything in my mouth. I have found it helpful to keep a box of grapes on the counter, so I can snack on those whenever I find myself wandering into the kitchen.
