i am not a happy bunny, my doctor put me on antibitics on tusday for an infection and it had made me put on 2 pounds of my lost 11 feel frustrated and sad all that hard work and then that happens :-(
i googles can nticbiotics affect weight lose and it can i wish my doctor said
"Well, antibiotics generally kill off many healthy gut bacteria and allow an overgrowth of bacteria that cause us to gain weight. Bad gut bacteria produce chemical compounds (like propionic acid) that induce cravings, hunger, and inflammation. Additionally, inflammation will decrease your calorie burn rate all day long." (from goggle)

So..make sure you finish off your antibiotics, meanwhile eat some fermented foods, natural yoghurt or take probiotics (do make sure there is at least a couple of hours between antibiotics and probiotics).
Not sure there is any reason to be angry, its a small gain and it may well be water weight unrelated to the antibiotics.
Just keep on doing what you've been doing to lose 11lb.

Unless you ate 7000 calories over your maintenance you did not gain 2 pounds of fat, it's just water weight that will go away. Give your body a chance to heal before you get discouraged.
And congrats on your loss so far!16 -
thanks guys its just disheartening when looking at the scales, i am doing what i have been doing from the start so couldn't understand you i am sure it will work its self out

Two pounds is just a water weight fluctuation. Relax. Fluctuations happen all the time for various reasons including high sodium meals, more carbs than usual, new or increased exercise, sleep disturbances, and stress. It really is a good idea to get used to them.
If you're carefully tracking and have not eaten extra calories, trust the process, drink some extra water, and just wait it out. It's good to have some other goals in mind besides the numbers on the scale like fitness goals, or streaks of days being compliant with your calorie intake.5 -
If you were put on antibiotics, you have an infection of some sort. The body becomes inflamed with infection. Inflammation is by definition:in·flam·ma·tion
ˌinfləˈmāSH(ə)n/
noun
noun: inflammation; plural noun: inflammations
a localized physical condition in which part of the body becomes reddened, swollen, hot, and often painful, especially as a reaction to injury or infection
You are retaining fluids due to an infection of some sort.
Work on eating at maintenance to speed your healing. This isn't the time to worry about a few pounds. It's going to drop back off when you're well again.8 -
I feel ya, OP. After 9 days of a cold that only got worse, I too am on antibiotics. I didn’t want them either, but evidently, my immune system needs the help this time. Feeling bad day after day makes me pretty testy as well. Here’s what I’m doing: taking all 10 days of antibiotics—the full course, drinking lots of fluids, eating lots of fiber to feed the healthy gut bacteria, resting, getting well. Truthfully, coffee helps.
I think I might have had a water weight bump up as well, because I sure felt inflamed. But who knows? My period is coming soon. And honestly, my weight has a 2 lb range in ANY given week. Totally normal.
Sounds like you’ve had great progress on your weight loss. Do what you need to do to get well. Stay the course on your weight loss because it is working. Don’t stress about a 2 pound variation or you will wear yourself out because that’s a fact of life whether you’re on antibiotics or not.
Hope you feel better soon.5 -
2 pounds heavier is better than dead. Kill the infection and then worry about weight loss.1

Yep.
You're sick. Get better first, then deal with the other stuff. This is like a speed bump on the Highway of Healthiness. A month or two from now you won't even remember it.
I had a horrible cold for almost a week where I couldn't do anything. Sinus pressure was so bad I couldn't stand, sit, lay down, nothing. No exercise, just tried to eat as sensibly as I could and wait it out.
Just watch your diet, make sure you feed yourself so your body has fuel to fight the bug, and when you are up to it again, go get after it!1 -
I was on antibiotics (including 6 weeks of 3x/day IV antibiotics) from mid April through mid October last year.
The only reason I put on any weight was because my activity level decreased, I didn't control my eating, and I was eating out WAY too often.
Yes, I took a GOOD probiotic during that time (a good one is not cheap, sorry), but weight gain was simply eating way more than I was burning off, simple as that.
If I had bothered counting my calories, and tracking my food and expenditure, and stuck to it, I wouldn't have put on what I did. Granted, I CHOSE not to deal with those things as the stress behind the reason for the antibiotics had me in a place where I didn't care about putting on some weight, and enjoying meals was, well, just more important at the time. I knew I'd have to lose it again, and I was okay with that decision.1
