You should do what you enjoy. Think of exercise as something you do for your health, not something you do to lose weight - your calorie intake will control that, and making sure you're in a deficit is what is important.
That said, doing resistance training as you diet will help you retain muscle... Having muscle is good, keeping as much as you can is a great idea. You will lose both fat and muscle as you lose weight, minimising the muscle loss is possible.5 -
Do both but a calorie deficit is what you need to lose the fat.2

Both cardio and lifting are great for health. For dieting, specifically, each serves a different purpose. Cardio will give you more calories to eat which makes dieting easier to sustain because you get to eat more, and lifting helps you retain more muscle mass so you may find yourself needing to lose less weight to look the way you want or at least not have as much work to do look-wise once you're at goal weight.
Pick the things you like and dedicate as much time as you want to either (or neither) depending on what you want out of your exercise and how important a certain aspect of it is to you.4 -

Eat in a calorie deficit to lose weight. Lift to maintain muscle. Cardio for heart health.1
