Facing surgery, need opinions

So, I’m facing surgery and need some input.

Three years ago I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia. At the time I was 150 pounds overweight, taking high blood pressure medication and dealing with chronic swollen ankles and intermittent back issues.

The surgeon recommended bariatric surgery, specifically the gastric sleeve, which he’d do while repairing the hernia. But first he wanted me to lose weight.

So I Levent on a weight loss program I did not have surgery because my symptoms went away, and my doctor said I could put off surgery until things got worse. My blood pressure went down, and I don’t need medication for high blood pressure anymore. I lost 75 pounds.

And then I hurt my knee, and stopped going to the gym. And regained some of the weight.

My hiatal hernia landed me in the ER last month, so now surgery is inevitable. And the surgeon is again recommending the bariatric procedure. I’m 100 pounds overweight, have chronic back pain and arthritis in my knees, but no other health issues.

Thoughts?

If you did it once you can do it again. I started 100lbs overweight and the subject was never even broached by my dr, nor would I expect it to. I also have sciatica that hasn't really gone away, so that's fun. Honestly, I'd hold off on the sleeve surgery and be super vigilant with the calories. Set your activity level to sedentary and eat to those calories. You can lose weight without exercise, but maybe asking your doctor or surgeon or some other medical professional if there's anything you can do. Something in the pool might be an option, water exercises are great since they're so low impact while helping you move.
