If the nutrition label on the package says "as prepared," and the directions on the pack say to use butter, then it includes butter.

So is "Bachelors" a brand? At first I was reading it as some kind of stereotype about all unmarried males just eating packaged mac-n-cheese.7

It's a pack of powder & dry pasta that you add milk (and butter) to.0 -

Thanks, I had deduced that from the OP. I was just wondering why he was calling it "bachelors." If it's a brand name (hard to know with OP's lowercase), it's not one I've ever seen in my neck of the woods, so at first I thought OP was using the term generically as some kind of characterization of mac-n-cheese kits in general. And when it suddenly occurred to me that it might be a brand name, I thought that might help someone who is familiar with that brand to give a more definitive answer to the OP with regard to whether the nutrition label assumes butter has been used in the preparation.0 -
I usually weigh the contents of the packet. You can weigh the whole packet without opening and then deduct the weight of the packet from the total weight. Then look at the calories for 100g and calculate from there. For example if your dry weight is 52g and the calories are say 150 calories for 100g. 150 X 0.52. Then you add the calories from the milk you use. Hope that makes sense.
I think you should always measure contents and work out calories per 100g as the weight of the contents isn't always accurate. I had some frozen burgers the other day and I scanned the barcode and it said the burgers were 110 cals each. Then when I weighed them it was waaay out. After weighing the burgers they worked out 180 odd calories each. Big difference.0 -
I'm quite sure it doesn't include the calories from the butter as the packet clearly states it is optional.1
