I havve just bought a fitbit one, it has shown up on my exercises as fitbit adjustment for calories burned. It says something very different from my fitbit one, like a tenth of the calories. Can someone please explain this to me? Have I set it up incorrectly?
TIA:)

Hi, I am not sure if I can answer this but my fitbit just posts on MFP the calories from what it estimates are over my regular burn, my TDEE, if that makes any sense. So if I work out for an hour, I get +200 cals or something more to eat.

I might have this wrong. I don't track calories, so I haven't looked into it much. What I gather is the calorie burn shown on the Fitbit website is supposed to mirror your actual total calorie burn for the day based on the activity level your Fitbit registers. It will increase throughout the day and will show more calories burned the more active you are since it is constantly monitoring your movement.
MFP sets a calorie limit for the day based on how you filled out the questions on activity level and how much weight you want to lose per week in association with your estimated BMR. The calorie adjustments from Fitbit are supposed to be extra calories you burned in addition to your BMR, which I think you could eat back, and still be in a calorie deficit. So if you are suggested a 1200 calorie a day meal plan, and want to lose 1 pound a week, your BMR is probably calculated around 1700 calories a day. If you exercise beyond your normal activity level and burn 300 extra calories, you could eat 1500 calories and still lose 1 pound in one week, mathematically, at least.
I don't have the premium account on Fitbit, so I can't compare the weight loss trainer part to MFP, which would be the thing to compare. They each have their own algorithms for calculating BMR and calories burned, so they won't be exactly the same.0 -
FitBit counts up, MFP counts down. You won't know your true adjustment until the end of the day but it's something you soon get used to. There's a FitBit section on here that has brilliant advice. I have the FitBit One and swear by it!
For me, around 3500 steps = sedentary on here, so around that point I won't get an adjustment at all, below and it'll take calories off of me, above and I'll get more to eat. It's good knowing rather than guessing how much you burn. FitBit's site gives more realistic burn rates for a lot of exercises too.
Have fun!0
