Help me understand calorie adjustment

I don't understand the MyFitnessPal calorie adjustment. I went for a 2 mile walk at 8 p.m. and used map my fitness to record The Walk, and if credited me with 219 calories. Then MyFitnessPal calorie adjustment said it would give me 386 calories 4 about 4400 steps.
My understanding of the calorie adjustment is that of a gift of calories resulting from extrapolating myactivity for the rest of the day. The end of the day is near and the calorie adjustment hasn't changed.
Maybe I just haven't waited long enough?

What is your activity level set at?
How many steps in total have you done all day?0 -
Way back when I started, I set activity at "lightly active" I think I underestimated that one--i swim almost daily for an hour, walk or bike an hour every other day, paddles every three or four...
I might have about 7000 steps all day (a guess). I had Mapmyfitness on only during my walk--it credits me for 4377 steps.
Does that info help?0 -
Lightly active already has around 7500 steps of exercise built in to your calories so it won't add more.
Your swimming and cycling you should manually add.0
