Hello everybody,

I'm looking to start my diet again after 8 years since I first lost 30lbs but since then I've gained it back and then some.

I was wondering how effective will my old diet be to me as I am now 27 vs 19 when I did my diet before.

I did a low carb diet which consisted of around 1500 calories a day with 3 meals plus 2 snacks.

I'm currently 230lbs and hope to go down to 175lbs.

You (universally you, as in everybody, in all situations) lose weight over time when you're in a consistent calorie deficit. Hope, in the sense of luck, is not a factor in this; but hope, as in trusting your own common sense and self-efficacy, is terribly important.

If you set MFP to weightloss and truly eat the amount of calories it suggests, then over time, you will lose weight. You can eat when and what you like. Your diet is just what you eat.

Losing weight is all about eating less calories than we burn - age isn't a factor.

Set MFP to the weekly weight loss you are aiming for, consistently keep within the calories given and if you exercise you can eat some of those back as well.

    All the best.
