    Do you have an OB-GYN?

Generally speaking, eat at maintenance, keep doing whatever exercise you've always done.

    See your doctor

An obstetrician, a pregnancy doctor. How much weight you should gain/lose and what kinds of activities you can or should do are based on your personal medical condition and should be discussed with your doctor.

I wouldn't focus a lot on dieting per se, as long as you are gaining weight at a healthy rate, just do the best you can with food. I had severe morning sickness with both of my children, so sometimes I had to eat whatever I could hold down and try to stay on top of taking my prenatal vitamin. Also eating on a regular schedule helped me not to feel so ravenous. I tried to make healthy choices as far as food is concerned, and keeping easy, healthy snacks around like fresh fruit and vegetables instead of less healthy options helped when cravings struck. If I wanted something sweet for instance, I would eat a sliced pear or apple with some peanut butter. If I was craving something salty, I might eat some mixed nuts or a couple handfuls of popcorn. I ate a lot of toasted laver, too. But in general, although it's good to exercise caution with weight gain, I wouldn't put a lot of focus on the scale. I stopped weighing myself during my pregnancy because I was starting to get upset seeing the numbers climb, even though my doctor was happy with my weight gain.

Healthy fats like nuts or avocados are good for you and baby. I also ate more red meat than I usually do, I tried to be mindful of getting enough protein and iron. If I was craving something specific that was unhealthy, I would eat a small portion of it, and then try to follow it with something healthy so that I felt satiated. Your healthcare provider should be able to provide you with a list of foods that are good for you and your developing baby. There are also lots of websites that have lists of things that are recommended during pregnancy (and also things to avoid).

Taking a prenatal vitamin is important too, I found taking it in the evening after my dinner was best for me. If I tried to take it in the morning or before a meal more often than not I would get nauseous.

I gained an unhealthy amount of weight with my first child, but I learned a lot through that experience and did much better the second time around. Feel free to friend me, I had my most recent child less than a year ago, so the experience of pregnancy is pretty fresh in my mind still.

And congratulations! Good on you for quitting smoking as well, I know it can be tough, but it's a great thing you've done for your child. Please feel welcome to ask me any questions you might have, if I can't answer them I may be able to help you find an answer. It's an exciting time, but I know it can feel overwhelming at times, too.

I found this thread for calorie counting while pregnant extremely useful, and easy to understand:

I also enjoy participating in the fit, fabulous, and pregnant group. There are alot of other pregnant women who are fun to talk to and very supportive of one another.
