walking/steps competition for work - walk to Oz etc

Hi

I have friends who through the NHS at their work had these schemes to have their steps logged and they then mapped these out across the world how far they walked over a period of time.

I don't know what this type of thing called but does anyone know of smaller versions or how to set one up rather than paying thousands of ££££??

I work in small company and do the marketing and though be a fun side thing as people moan all day about wishing they did more and Im the kind of person who says just do it!!

Any tips or advise be great. Ive looked into getting speedometers, its more the logging or advice how to set this up or something similar to get people interested - and as mostly men in my company competition is always a good encouragement!

Thanks

My employer passed out pedometers to those who wanted to play.

Designated a map (Walk to egypt) you pick the distance. 500-1000-2000 etc.

We are on a team of 5

We turn in our total step count once a week (monday)

And the person heading it up calculates it out, and plots each team on the map as we
    compete against other teams.

    Its fun! Good luck!

You can have check points too if you want. For example: First team to 500 miles gets lunch
Or a new item (stress ball, pens, etc) to each member or team as they hit that checkpoint.

Wow sounds great! Only thing is I can see once ask for few quid towards pedometers interest will be lost but thought would be fun. Should have really started it before summer but ah well.

    Thanks for tips!

Realised walk to oz in title was way too ambitious!!
