Sore neck

For the past few months, I have been having a lot of neck and shoulder (trap area) when I go to lay down for bed at night. I used to be a stomach sleeper but now I pretty much HAVE to fall asleep without a pillow, laying completely flat on my back with a heating pad in order to fall asleep. I was wondering if there was a muscle group I could work out in order to hopefully help reduce the pain?

If you have a desk job where you are looking at a computer, you might unwittingly have developed a posture problem (do web search for "computer neck" to find some helpful exercises). Another thought - if you are currently weight training, you may not be maintaining your neck in a neutral position. If this is the case, work on form.0

What do you think it's from?
What are you workouts like?
Try this stretch a few times a day for 30+ seconds:

If that doesn't help, you might need to see a physical therapist to figure out what's going on..0 -
I would suggest having some massages on the area and having a lot of hot baths to relax the muscles. Sounds to me like you may have inflammation in the shoulder/neck area so taking ibuprofen and regular massage / hot baths should reduce your symptoms. As for the gym .. just make sure you are properly warming down with stretches0
