I've just joined my local gym, it's much smaller than my last gym (big, young demographic and just didn't feel "right") but it's got everything you could need, the staff are lovely, so welcoming and encouraging.

I'm booked in to set up a real training programme to use the "big" weights with proper instructions on form and technique and I'm so excited about it!

I've been itching to use the bigger weights for a long time but at my last gym they were constantly surrounded by the usual "bro" type of guys, all a bit intimidating really.

Just wanted to share it here as I know there are lots of like minded folks who enjoy lifting...can't wait to start! :D

It really is fun to get started with them. You'll find that the added strength makes life easier in ways that you never thought about and those ways can sneak up on you. Last summer we were spreading mulch and I made a comment that they must be putting less in the bags but pricing them the same because I was able to carry one in each hand instead of needing both hands for one. My husband said nooo, they are the same, you are just stronger

I'm really enjoying lifting. I've lifted in the past, but not as regularly as I am now, and I'm loving it. Sure, doesn't have the calorie burn I'd get from doing more cardio than I do (mostly get that through my martial arts right now), but I don't have to "force" myself to lift!

Oh, and chances are, the bros aren't as tough as they like to appear LOL. One of the bigger guys at my gym, who seemed so "bro-like" to me, turned out to be my new chiropractor. Actually a cool, chill dude who just likes to chat to the people he sees there all the time.

Good luck on your new workouts!
