Realizing how exactly I put on the weight

So I began this weight loss journey in February. Currently I'm on a diet break so I am eating at maintenance. For my weight and activity it is about 2300 calories. Today I have eaten 2000(approx. goal weight maintenance) I am completely satisfied I cannot eat anything else. I have been eating exactly the same foods that I was eating before I started a deficit with one exception no Mt. Dew. I have realized that if I never started drinking those calorie filled drinks I would have never put on weight or very little. This actually makes me happy because as long as I stay away from soda I may just be able to handle maintenance. I was drinking at least 1200 calories a day in Mt. Dew and eating about 2000 calories. Why did it take me so long to get this through my head.

Because Mountain Dew is delicious?
I gave up soda, too. It is way too easy to drink several hundred calories worth.2 -

I love Mt Dew but been without it since the day before Valentine's day. Tried diet dew and it was gross.1 -
I lost weight immediately - twice - by just cutting out drinking canned soda and beer at home. Easily drank 800-1000 cals a day doing that b4.
Completely cut out sodas from 4-6 cans, a day to zero but still drink a pint of draft now and then when I eat out but not the 3-4 cans of Bud that I use to drink in a day.
Lost over 40#s each time. Slacked and fell off the wagon the 1st time but have been maintaining the weight loss for going on 2 yrs this time around.

You can pry my Mt DEW from my cold, dead, (and maybe fat ) hands!!!
Once upon a time I would drink 2 or 3 cans a day. Now I limit it to weekends after my long runs. But I'll never give it up. NEVER! MawHAHAHAH1 -
Had days where I would drink a 2 liter of code red. Switched to diet. Have not had a regular soda in 3 years. Now, I can't tell I am drinking diet.3
