Hello all,
I'm a new RN and started working my first RN job in January this year. For the past 5 months I've noticed my clothes were starting to get a little loose from working 3 12 hour shifts (nights) each week. I wasn't doing anything to lose weight, I was just focusing on adjusting to work and figured I may as well weigh myself again to see where I was at. In the beginning of January I had a doctor check up and I weighed 189lbs, the heaviest I've ever been and was afraid of working out and injuring myself again like last year.
I knew I had to change something eventually but wasn't ready to do anything about it because I was going to be starting a new job and just wanted to take things one day at a time. On the 8th of May I weighed 174 lbs. I logged it into MFP, checked my weight logs all the way back to when I first started using MFP in April 2014.
I found out I haven't been under 175lbs in 4 years. It was so crazy and just an eye opener to me that I felt motivated again, that I can lose the weight if I just keep it up and have a great support group backing me. So I cut out soda from there, my archnemesis, and just slowly started to be more food conscious about what exactly I was eating, logging foods etc.
I plan on working out on my days off and since I walk a lot from working the floor, I think it'll be a good start for me. :)
A little more background info on me since 2012. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and allergy induced asthma, gained weight after my 1st semester of college that Freshman 15 turned into Freshman 40. I weighed 120lbs after high school. Struggled to keep working out as I couldn't find anything I loved doing. Went through nursing school and other family things that eventually got me up to 175lbs. Tried to work out and got really bad plantar fasciitis in both feet from going too ham. Anyway I'm 5'5", currently now at 170lbs (yay) I'll try to be posting here in my little thread/post every so often.
Short term goal: to be at 160 lbs before I go see my family in Texas at the end of June
Long term goal: 130lbs maybe even 125lbs.

Well it sounds like you got past a lot of stress and associated weight gain and now are getting settled. Since my mom was an RN you all have a special place in my heart and I know you spend a lot of time on your feet. Glad you cut out soda, so is your dentist. The thyroid stuff is always complicated, you might consider a dietitian if you haven't already. Are you doing strength training? You need it for patient lifting--keep that back healthy. I'm glad you are tracking toward your goal!

Thank you! I do strength training two times a week, basically just upper and then lower the next time. Since I haven't had a steady workout commitment before I'm just starting out slow and really just getting the moves down so I don't hurt anything. Our hospital has us do refresher courses for protecting our backs and stuff for patient transferring so that helps a lot too :) For diet, I cut down on a lot of rice, didn't really eat a lot of fast food in the past year since my last semester of nursing school cause I felt like it was making me feel tired and bloated all of the time. We usually cook a lot too so the trick is for me just eat smaller portions :) A dietician may be covered by my insurance, I'm not sure yet I'll look into it though.
Again thank you so much for your kind words, I appreciate it a lot
