I love fruit but the sugar and carbs.on my macros today sugar was over the limit and carbs for the day was almost there and most came from eating fruit. I had a banana, single serve no sugar added applesauce, and 300g red grapes. There may have been a little sugar in the rest of my food but not much. I know fruit sugar isn't bad but looks bad on my macros

    Do you have a medical reason to watch your sugar intake? I don't pay attention to it and instead track fiber.

    Maybe your macros aren't set properly, maybe you should ignore sugar because it's just a subset of carbs, maybe 300 grams of grapes is a lot of grapes in one go?

    Macros are personal preference. I don't even look at the sugar number, and feel better when my carbs are in the moderate range, so I set my macros accordingly.

    As long as you are staying around your calorie goal, you will lose/gain/maintain accordingly. If you feel the fruit doesn't fill you up, or if you have related health concerns, you will need to eat less fruit I guess. But if you are feeling good and hitting your calorie goal, I wouldn't worry about it.

    i found very early on i felt 10000% beter eating way higher fruit/sugar intake then that. I fought it actively to keep my proteins and fats up but i felt miserable. My energy crashed and my skin looked awful and my gym time struggled. Pretty much summed up were all different, Listen to your own body if it feels good eating fruit (again what you listed isnt even much fruit lol) Then eat the fruit and enjoy. Sugars not really an enemy.

    edit to add: Im still fighting my fruit intake a bit to get my protein high enough for muscle support, But i still hate it XD

    On macros I just try to keep it in balance on the ratios at the end of the day. I love fruit and eat lots. I often pair it with low carb yogurt or light string cheese to help fill me up. I am consistently losing weight each week

    focus on calories. not carbs. Get a decent amount of each macro ....whatever makes you as satisfied/satiated as possible. Gives you energy (carbs) and just keeps you mentally happy (Stop worrying about eating fruit if you like fruit...) In other words, Relax, lol

    for what its worth there are long stretches of time i feel and achieve best with 70+% carbs. And iv lost 110 Lbs just fine, And am very active and energetic now. They are fuel, That is all. It seems youve been listening to keto pushers i imagine, Theres nothing wrong with limiting carbs. If it works for that person. Seems like it doesnt for you, You like your fruit. So theres no need.

    I was prediabetic last summer, started watching my carbs..and I am now back in the normal range. I limit fruit to one piece a day.

    I've just heard don't eat a lot of carbs Im glad I will not worry about carbs. Im always under my calories and am losing weight just have never had them that high since I started about 6 weeks ago.

    Im not diabetic but the last time I had my sugar tested they say it was 116 about 3 hours after dinner my doctor said maybe watch sugar

    I only look at the percentages on the pie chart and ignore the numbers. I have no medical reason to avoid carbs but do find my percentages align with MFPs suggested percentages most days and I don’t feel hungry.

    I dont feel hungry and am losing weight about 20lbs in 6 weeks but have a lot to lose I just don't know how much sugar and carbs I should eat since for the first time ever being tested for sugar it was high at 116 a few hours after dinner doctor just said watch sugar what does that really mean

    Why don't you ask him/her? It doesn't make any sense to tell you something like that without giving you some guidance.

    Ok but maybe I will eat a little less since my doctor said watch sugar because my sugar was 116 about 3 hours after dinner but didnt say no more about it.

    Im alway under my calorie goal so the calories are not the problem but what about the carbs Im suppose to eat no more the 187 and today it was 184 and I've heard that makes you hold in water. Today is the first day that my carbs where that high. What fruit doesn't make carbs go up so much?

    So...you were under your arbitrary carb goal...and it was the first day you’d even come that close to your arbitrary carb goal...and you feel it “looks bad”?

    For one thing, your macros just really aren’t that important unless a doctor has put you on a specific type of diet for a specific health reason. They’re just an estimate of what allows the most people to eat the healthiest diet, on average, across the entire population.

    For another, your goal isn’t to be under all your goals at all times. Eat your calories. Eat your carbs. Heck, eat your grapes.

    Yes, there are lower-carb fruits out there, but I kind of don’t want to tell you about them. You sound like you’re a little tightly wound and inclined to overdo things, and I’m hesitant to contribute to that. There’s nothing bad or unhealthy about bananas. Carbs are just a kind of fuel for your body; one of three. Some people like more of one kind and less of another, but you find your way there based on how you feel, not on how “it looks.”

    I go to a VA hospital if that tells you anything and shes not a doctor I know very well it was my first visit with her

    I recommend calling your doctor about this. There are definitely medical reasons to restrict fruit if diabetes is a concern. Losing weight can also help with diabetes if it is weight related. I would recommend asking directly if you should limit your fruit or if he is only concerned about added sugar. A dietitian would be a great help as well. I would also ask him if you need to monitor your blood sugar and if so ask for some direction there.

    ...but you were still under on sugar, and it was all from fruit. If you think she meant watch it even more than that, you need to make another appointment and get that clarified.

    What does this even mean? You keep referring to her as a doctor but now you say she's not a doctor?

    If you don't like your doctor (or whatever she is), ask for a referral to a dietitian.

    I'm with the VA too. Sometimes it takes a little more work to get what I need. On the plus side, they don't limit my visits to a mere 10 or 15 minutes.

    Try the VA TeleMOVE program. I found it helpful, and could have had consultations with a dietitian if I wanted, which I didn't, but I think could be helpful for you.
