I have know a few people this has worked for, and I start it yesterday. I'm doing a 16/8-fasting for 16 hours, then an 8 hour window where I can eat. My window is from 12 noon -8pm, and I just had a question to pose to anyone who does/has done this.
In that Eating Window, is the idea to eat less calories than you are allowed on MFP to lose weight, or should I eat all of the calories?
Right now I have around 1700 calories a day i can eat, and, even though it's an 8 hour time span, it just feels like a lot. So, my question is, is the point of the IF to stop me from eating all 1700 calories?

thanks so much!

No, the point isn't to stop you from eating your 1700 calories.

Have you read all the info on Leangains.com?

Why would you do something that only makes your diet more complicated vs just eating at a deficit with no restrictions as when you can eat?

Just eat your 1700 calories in any combination and at any hour that will help you with your adherence and satiety.

IF isn't magic. I do it, but only because it is my natural way of eating anyway. You have to find what works for you.

But cutting calories MORE is probably not the answer.

Some people do IF just because it's the way they have been eating naturally, others sadly go into in blindly because they have seen people succeed on it. *shrugs*

Many people do it because it helps control hunger when your body adapts to it. You get to eat bigger meals that keep you full. In all honesty, it's not very complicated. I follow IF solely because I'm never hungry for breakfast anyway, so I eat a bigger lunch and dinner.

I think he's just asking HER specifically, not the general public. ETA: Though, yes, primarily to eat bigger meals when you DO eat. AGREED.

OP, I chose IF (Leangains) after I researched the site. I was looking for a go around on the 6 Meals bodybuilders generally eat throughout the day. So, I chose this because it fit my lifestyle and my lifting goals. Not because I wanted to lose weight. So OP, if it's just to lose weight, it would seem you are complicating things unnecessarily.

Exactly this. You saved me from having to type it out.

    Hi Everyone,
thanks for the comments, in all honesty, I started becasue I feel that I get a lot of calories from Breakfast, and it didnt stop me from still eating a good size lunch and dinner, so I thought it would make sticking to my daily calorie goal easier, and just wanted to be sure I was doing the right thing by sticking to that goal.
Thanks for the insights, and I will check out Leangrains.com.

hope everyone has a great day!

Why not just skip breakfast without calling it IF? Intermittent Fasting doesn't own the rights to "skip breakfast." They just happen to do it because of their protocol.

I do not do IF, but I hardly eat breakfast either. I might eat breakfast foods like omelets and such, but it's rarely right when I wake up. I tend to eat 2-3 hours after waking up since I just am not hungry right when I get up.

You might also want to pre-plan your day and stick to that plan. That way you can plan out beforehand which meals get the most calories and when you will eat them. Pre-planning and pre-logging has been the single best way I have seen success. Without the plan, I tend to wing it...and when I wing it, I screw up and go over on calories.

^^^This. So much this. Half of all the IF threads are basically about "I decided to skip breakfast". I do that a hundred days a year without giving it a cool name. I save the cool names for my peter weeter.

Well, it also helped me not to snack at night. I would eat from 12-8. By 8, I felt like I had done 90% of the diet, which helped me to fight the urges to snack at night. I never ate breakfast to begin with, but cutting out the snacking alone saved me 200-500 calories per day.
