I'm a GI nurse and here is what we tell people that suffer with GERD:
-Lose weight
-stay away from fried spicy foods
-Elevate the head of the bed with 6 inch blocks
-no tight clothes
-no food at least 2 hours prior to bedtime
-increase your activity level
-make yourself aware of the foods that give you the most trouble and either removed them from your diet or eat sparingly

Kefir milk every day is fab for GERD!

Try ACV. It helped everyone in my family with GERD and they swear by it. Start of with one teaspoon in warm water before a meal and avoid sugary foods and fried foods. My parents are doing low carb and my dads acid reflux has improved so you could try it.1

My husband used to have to take omoperazole (no idea how to spell it lol), and found that if he stayed away from tomatoes, onions and capsicum he was ok.
Not saying this will work for everyone, but it worked for him. Like one of the above posters said, it could be helpful to try and identify which foods are trigger foods, so you can avoid them?0 -
Definitely find out what foods trigger your symptoms. For me, chilli of any kind, homemade or out of can gives me major heartburn. Oh and Bacon! Losing weight and being active has definitely helped my GERD. I've had GERD for the last 7+ years and since changing my diet I've been off my meds. Except when I still eat chilli and bacon on the rare occasion I still have to pop a zantac, those two things still screw me up to this day.0
